nice car and congrats. casis red possibly? a very, very cool color and I personally think these cars in odd but cool colors will be of more value!

Nice car! Love those rims. But if I were you, I'd find some Fuchs and an original exhaust with thermal reactors so I could brag on the forums about how much resale value my car has.

pkabush 07-11-2014 08:48 AM

Nice find. Be interesting to see what the original color is. Did you buy it from John Walker?

16Volt 07-11-2014 09:13 AM

Pkabush, get back in the garage and get your car done so we can have our own west coast 930 gathering.

We'll know eventually...I asked the COA folks to send me the paint code once they have the info pulled up, as opposed to waiting for the hard copy.

When you mentioned pinkish hue, that made me think of Carmine Red. Definitely a cool color if that is what it is. Later 930's came with that color option, but no idea about earlier ones.

I have 16x7 and 16x9 Fuchs already - options are good. :D Thermal reactors...yeah, that's the ticket.

Yes indeed. Damned car had been sitting in the corner for years. He finally decided he wanted the space back.

Yeah...when I picked it up, John grumbled something to the effect of "should have pulled the damned headlights".

EARLY Carmine Red is flat. That is the only Carmine that could be on this car, but the paint on this car appears to be metallic. I thought late Carmine was metallic, but cannot tell from the photos I've seen.

Late:

For reference, here's what was officially available, excepting "paint to sample" which was often an earlier Porsche color:

I totally just read that in his voice.

Congrats Kenik - good looking car - you're gonna love it!
Thanks for posting the useful paint code table.
Cheers,

Iain

BTW, you will probably be the first person outside myself and Bernie to drive it first, Bryan.

Back to the color. Took some shots today of the areas of the car that you can still see the original. My mechanic buddy (Bernie) is convinced it is a paint to sample color. Here are the shots:

A few other new details today:
  • The turbo in place was indeed a 3LDZ
  • The 3LDZ was NOT leaking - it is fine
  • The passenger side cylinder heads ARE leaking
  • The red painted brake calipers were sadly painted in high quality caliper paint. Even nasty solvent wont touch them.
The Ruf wheels are growing on me. They might stick around for awhile until I have nothing better to do than buy tires for my Fuchs and do a comparison. No hurry there. My DC15 regrinds are in process with Dougherty...might as well. Sadly, no LSD

As far as the oil leak goes, we'll have to dig into the heads and see if the guides are shot or if it is the valve stem seals that are shot. The Teflon ones don't leak, so if they are the old rubber kind, no wonder. If not, more money to Ollie's.

If the heads need to come off, do I do it? Do I:
  • Port the heads...and what spec?
  • Twin plug is a given...I have two Electromotive setups waiting to be used.
  • DC15s already inbound
  • Compression bump to 8.x using JE FSRs?

And that's before we get to the transmission, which is hopefully fine for the time being. Would hate to have to rebuild it right now and go to the added expense of finding an LSD to install with my newly acquired 8:41 R&P.

^:D

I have the original '79 exchangers, muffler, and wastegate plumbing. All you would need is the thermal reactors and you could restore this baby back to 100% bone stock...enjoy the car the way the factory intended, you know:p

krasuskyp 07-12-2014 05:42 AM

very cool

That color looks suspiciously like Justin's... which he'd believed is possibly called Ruby Red and was either one of a kind or one of very few. You tell me:

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-p...0/DSC00807.JPG

shame someone shot it black (people suck - what a dumb thing to do) - would be cool to restore it to original someday

lots of new shinybits on thar, always good

Ruf's are great lookin on there... just heavy as heck.

and agreed, source some thermal reactors and enjoy a stock masterpiece! :D

ps. biitchin' hoodstrut lol...
