Got a call from PCNA today regarding the color on my car.

The color code on the Kardex is list as "99" and ONLY "99" which is "Paint To Sample". There was no additional information on the Kardex. I'm pretty thankful that I have some pretty decent panels to have a color match mixed from.

It will be interesting to see what the computer returns, as generally speaking, it was another OEM's paint color that was used in these paint-to-sample examples.

Little secret: if you email PCNA after you request your COA, they will call/email with any data you want before they mail it. :)

New turbo on yet?

How about now?

Just checking, new turbo on?

Not yet.

So the guides on the heads are shot - you can feel the slack in the valve guides.

It appears that the first step on the slippery slope to huge performance has been unintentionally tread: the set of big port, twin plug SC heads I'd set aside for another build are getting ready to go on the car, as well as the Electromotive HPV-1 twin plug ignition. I mean why have twin plug heads if you don't go twin plug? :D Use what ya got...

So with DC15 cams, a K27-7006 turbo, Euro HE and muffler, it should be enough, right? Right???

I believe the information actually does exist in Kardex. I had to go through Porsche in Denmark, where a friendly soul did the extra effort and dug deeper than the 99 code.

In short, I managed to get the actual color code on my CoA. It was Lesonal 704, matte Schwartz. Literally unique and more than worth the effort to investigate.

^ Hmmmmmm...I figured as much. Time to make a call...

So after teardown, the motor was a complete train wreck. I half expected it and factored it into the car's price, but certainly means I'm not as far ahead as I'd like.

After good numbers on the leak down, it was all down hill. 5/6 pistons have cracks, speaking of which, one valve seat in one of the heads...yup, cracked. Insult to injury, the valve guides are out of spec, rod side play is crap, ALL bearings are worn into the brass, oil pump drive pin buggered up...it needs everything. This is the most clapped out motor you could possibly have and still have everything be rebuildable.

The upshot: build it like ya want it!

So the wheels are already turning. I bought those 98mm 8.5:1 JEs that we were all drooling over in the Pelican classifieds and will get coated when the cylinders get sent out to be bored next week. Dougherty just shipped me my DC15 cams, I already have a k27-7006 and euro exhaust. Rods get ARP bolts and to top it off, an Andial intercooler has fallen in my lap!

Sadly, I don't have time to do the full rebuild myself these days, so a buddy of mine is doing it. Here are some shots from today at his shop:

In other news, I am crossing fingers - I may have found help in regard to determining the official, original color of the car. I am just about convinced it is Sahara Diamond Metallic...would love to know for sure. Pretty cool:

And no post tonight would be complete without me sharing my joy in having the below back from the body shop, after 4 months rectifying the indiscretions of a car behind me...

While that would be fun and make some glorious noises, I don't have room for another car in my garage.

Honestly, I don't trust you to not make stupid power - you know how you are...

kenikh 07-30-2014 08:53 AM

Yes, stupid power will be on tap. Not compared to some of the guys here making 600HP, I'll be closer to fore hunny.

Slow progress. No one wants to read a first hand account of a train wreck. I'm waiting for the positive punch line.

I'd like to know how the hpv-1 works out. I have a single plug set up from my 3.2 I'd like to use. I found an old post saying you can get a map sensor from Clewett. I've been running a hpv-1 twin plug on our 3.4 n/a for years with no problems.
I've also gone through a very ugly tear down, but now things are looking up.

HPV-1 is dumb - just spark. I know the HPX will take a MAP sensor to retard timing, but am unable to confirm the HPV-1 will do the same.
