Though this car is way beyond what I signed up for regarding value, it will not change the reason I bought it. This is what I do; I like to work on these cars, and learn from the fellow nutcases on this board.

Yes, the road has been bumpy so far. Hopefully it will be somewhat smoother, yet steeper in the future.

You'll need to get an buddy in the Air Force or Navy to hook you up with a set of those 5pt harnesses, they came out our a jet fighter.

Really glad to see you back in public with your car Jesper. You lived our worst nightmare and the reason those garage queens will never see the light of day.

I had this '81 Euro for only a short time but it was a GREAT car. Last of the $20K 930s I guess as I bought it about a year and a half ago. Fairly heavily modified it would've given the Red Rocket a run for the money. Awesome driver, smooth as glass and purred like a kitten. It was tuned perfectly. 21mpg on the highway and probably 370HP at the wheels. I couldn't keep it so drove it for a few months and sold it way too cheap by todays standards. It went back to Europe where they appreciate Euro 930's. The new owner was driving it last I heard.

A driver

I took mine to a concourse recently and the judge said to me the car is an "extremely nice daily driver" so I guess mine qualifies for this category. I do drive it every chance I get and it does have 68K miles on it. The only mods I have done are bolt on ones and kept all factory parts. B&B headers and exhaust B&B intercooler fabspeed airbox K27 turbo Wevo shifter and some other small upgrades.

digging the brand concept too Jake

great pic w/ your daughter kas - happy 1st!

awesome idea, Brian

Me... I'm kinda (kinda?) warped. Brakedust and tirepeltings are cause for swoon. I'm bemused by the well-earned filth of it all.

What sucks is, it's hard to capture the depth of the grime... really needs to be beheld in situ (great juxtaposition of both tire and mud in the first one):

The more I can make concouristi recoil and cringe, the more awesomerer. Heck sundeville, I cut my rear deck (the hooooror!) to mount 3pt belts back there soley so I could use the damn car anywhere anytime... lots of ferrying about to practices and games here and whatnot for my 3 weeones.

my muse - Peteywheat:

Keep up the good werk out thar, gentz! Ride 'em hard, put 'em away wet.

And no worries on the fabric of this place here... it's always been and will forever be the rock um sock um politically incorrect DIY'ers paradise. Hey, the Old One says so.

The values and the rest of the Pomp and Circumstanchh (said with my stiffest sidelip) are more sideshow spectacle...

Paul, if you had a car in the "right" color, every speck of dust stands out immediately.

Here's my "Clunker" It's been great to finally get this car back on the road. I'm still doing shake down cruises to locate additional parts that need to be adjusted or replace. So far almost 4,000 miles of shakedown cruises and loving every minute. Fortunately I live in a area with some great twisties.

I know that money isn't the reason we do this, but .......
Try and think about a new car purchase for the money you have paid for (or spent) on your baby. Then think about the depreciation in value that new puchase would suffer as soon as you leave the dealer. Ouch!
Now think about the FUN we all have from the moment we leave the house til the time we get back.
Why woudn't we get out & drive .......mine's a daily with almost 240,000 km's on the clock (yes there was a rebuild about 100k ago) & I have no plans to change.
I'm in love.

You wanna park your car and not accumulate miles and obsess over minutiae that scores points at Pebble Beach? That's alright by me. Its your car, you paid your money for it, do with it as you please. Just don't tell me that I shouldn't mod/drive/enjoy mine the way I want to...my car, my money, my brand of enthusiasm for the marque. You are the guy who said publicly on this forum that '79s should not be driven, right?

Agree we should mingle well because of a similar taste in cars, but we often don't because some folks start talking about devaluing a car. Let's take fine wine as an analogy. Let's say many years ago you paid a modest sum of $ for a few cases of wine. Its sitting in your cellar now, but as the years have past, that wine is now getting a lot of attention by a group of nuevo wine snobs as being a particularly important vintage and now those bottles are worth 4x what you paid. You've been drinking it, you taste why its so special and you enjoy drinking it, but the nuevo wine snobs are telling you: "you can't do that, its too valuable, too important, you need to save it for a special occasion" Its your wine though, so who the hell are these people telling you not to drink it?

Drink the bottle, or admire the bottle sitting in your cellar?
Damn right and well said.

I think you will find that the "collectors' are a bit more polarizing than the "enthusiasts"... we like to enjoy building and driving (which is what they were built to do) our cars and can appreciate the trailer queens as living examples of showroom new cars too enjoy viewing only. Where the collector will scoff at what we do to our cars as sacrilegious and devaluing.

For example someone buys a 77 with updates for better performance, reliability and drivability, then takes all those mods off to make the car more "original. In the eyes of the enthusiast, that car is LESS desirable, but in the eyes of the collector, that car has more value.

I wouldn't even call it apples and oranges, but rather Red Delicious apples to Granny Apples. Same fruit, so close, but so different.

Nice cars!
Probably THE best aspect of these cars, and what makes it possible for me, is you can drive them for free. Generally speaking, whatever you paid for it you will get back when you sell. Very spouse friendly situation! Now the go fast goodies you add are just icing, they don't need to know about all that, ha!
Rahl gets special accolades for driving an early turbo. These have become "the chosen ones" now and are leaving the roadways in droves. We need to action shots on those curvy roads.

I am guilty of never taking video or action shots as it just doesn't occur to me when I go out for a drive up, down, and through the mountains. If you guys could see and experience what I do on these drives you'd all head to the Dragon this weekend! We have a lot of roads just like that.
Got film or action shots from your stomping grounds? Post em! I saw one fellow pictured at Deal's Gap a few posts earlier. Killboy and others make pictures at the Dragon, if you have some post 'em!
