don't want to steal this great thread...

but it looks as if you intake pipe should be closer to the charge air pipe. Philip

Yes, you can see the orange flex piping in some of the pics. Also I had to modify my tin. (cut hole closer to charge pipe hole). No mods to stock heating system. Philip

You ran the fuel line OUTSIDE of the car?!?

I was curious on that as well, I went all AN modern fuel setup on mine, but still ran the lines through the tunnel, seems sketchy taking the same route as the old AC lines.

It's a great build ... there's no doubt about that.

But fuel lines need protection ... I've never seen any manufacturer run a fuel line outside of the car.

Most manufacturers run fuel hard lines under the chassis but I agree it's not necessarily the best route but perfectly safe in my opinion. Plenty of race cars and modified street cars run this exact route on the 930s.

Great project to be followed, I look forward to knowing the continuation!
One thank you for photos, explanations and especially videos! :)

I ran 6AN hardlines through the tunnel anything larger is an event to put in. I talked to Chris about this and he said that the larger lines (8AN) are almost impossible to run through the tunnel - so they run them where the AC lines are.

Look at most american cars - they run hardlines out side of the car along the frame since forever. Which is not saying much. If you do it very minimal - I think that works fine.

Although I think hard-lines inside the tunnel is the best solution for safety and longevity, you could argue that having flexible hose outside the tunnel allows it to be regularly inspected for leakage and more easily replaced (compared to flex-lines inside the tunnel, where it's impossible to inspect them thoroughly).

Manufacturers don't run fuel lines in the "crumple zone" on a unit body (between the rocker and the first hat section floor reinforcement) for fear of having those lines rupture during a side impact. Further inboard is better with the centerline being the absolute best (if there is no propshaft). The positioning of the lines get verified with crash testing.

-8AN PTFE will run through the tunnel. The PTFE hose has the ID of -8AN but OD of -6AN:

The TechAFX hose has a cover over the braid so it doesn't chew up everything it touches.

I'm waiting for the back to back dyno results of the two turbos.
Cool series of videos- thanks to Chris at TK for the behind the scenes access. Awesome!

Ditto. Really cool to see the guys at TC do there thing. Thanks for taking the time to post the vids Pete.

Nice new build guys! Thanks for setting the example by going EFI and I'm certain you will enjoy the new drive efficiency. All original isn't living with these older cars!

Really enjoyed the vids as well. Mike, that was considerate turning down the death metal music! :)

The one caution I'm sure Chris went over with you was in regard to the exhaust manifold wastegate tube. The solid welded tube may eventually fracture at the collector with that configuration. The stainless (hopefully 321) expands quite a bit and also with that arrangement it could contribute to some boost creep. A danger worth taking into consideration if you haven't already.

Love the black anodizing! Maybe in a year or so you can follow up with the TurboKraft Billet Intercooler!

R6XTERRA 05-20-2016 10:22 AM

Pete,

I am stoked to see the results and finished product. Been really enjoying the videos.

My car is in Chris's trusty hands to work his magic. (struggling sleeping at night with anticipation)

I agree, cool videos showing Turbocraft at work! I also can't wait to see the turbo comparison videos. Whats the hold up Pete? :D

Pat RUFBTR 05-23-2016 04:17 AM

Soon afterwards! :)

Pete hasn't updated the thread in a while, but he did put up two videos on rebuilding the transmission. Pretty good look at the process.
