Crankcase Studs.
Guys.I need to replace a crankcase stud.Car is 78sc.This is the lower pair that mate to box.Brought one home to measure, and it is 92mm.I used 1978 PET and 1986.Porsche did not make a 92mm (or even close!) stud, according to Parts diagram.
Am I missing something here? ![]() |

It's probably a 95mm stud. A lot of hardware is shorter than the specs. I assume this is so the hardware does not bottom out in a blind hole.
And there is nothing special about Porsche studs other than the headstuds AFAIK. As stated above, McMaster-Carr or your local Fastenal should have them.

You don't need locking compound unless removing a stud damaged the case threads. In this application, best to install your favorite case saver insert. Typically these studs stay put when you go to remove the nuts.

The PET stud length is only the exposed length of the stud, not the full length. Rob

Correct. Very confusing until you figure that out. I use Belmetric for all my metric fasteners, they have anything you'll ever need and then some.
