3.2 Top End Engine Rebuild

Hi Folks,

I bought a 1987 Carrera two years ago. 80,000 miles, very original, very good overall condition.

But it burns oil, about 1 quart per 300 miles. Might need a top end rebuild.

Looking for some guidance on reputable shops in Southern California and ballpark prices, how long it should take, what to look for, etc. I live in Torrance, CA. Much appreciated.

It shouldn't be burning oil at only 80Kmi. Are you sure it burns oil? You can lose a lot of oil through leaks too. If it doesn't leak, then, yeah, it must be going out the exhaust.

Before you start tearing it apart, get compression and/or leak down measurements.

Valve guides worn. Common Carrera issue.
