Weltmeister tow hook-longer studs
I'd like to install this jackpad/tow hook and it requires longer studs on the two lowest mounting points of the rear engine mount.
![]() Is there any reason I simply couldn't use a longer bolt in place of the stud?

Expressed another way your question is "why do we use studs instead of bolts?"
We use studs instead of bolts because the magnesium case is not intended to have a fastener repeatedly threaded in and out of it. So the stud goes in ONCE, then it's the stud that takes the stress of assembly and disassembly, not the relatively weak metal of the case. Also, if the studs are installed properly, there is less chance of stripping the threads out than if you were to preload a screw fitted into the hole to get the case to seal.

Sadly, I no longer have a mag case engine, these days it's a 3.2, which is rather dull compared to my old 2.2S. No more 7300 rpm "crackle." So... longer bolt, carefully measured to go into the case the same depth as the old stud, and some blue loctite? Sound good? Oh jeez...I just noticed...check out my "new" club racing number. S***. Will you be at LRP or the Glen? ![]()

I wonder how they assigned you that number? Given that it's a three-digit number you would think PCA would reserve it, at least on the East Coast? It was my old DE number.
Anyway, my car is in storage for a couple years so don't worry in the slightest about any confusion. . . be safe and have fun at the track. ![]()
