On an engine that has been properly maintained. How many miles should you get out of a 1977S 2.7 that has been totally (top and bottom) rebuilt. The work was done by one of the best Porsche shops in San Diego. The rebuild was done when the vehicle had 111,000 miles. Case savers etc when part of the rebuilt.

It really depends on the quality of the rebuild: what was replaced and how well the machine work was performed.
With strict oil temperature control, I've seen properly done 2.7's last up to 180K.

Steve I am looking at doing the top and bottom when I do rebuild.
I would like to 964 camshaft and take a hard look at piston size. Right now the car is running great, just want to make some plans. |

Bear in mind that these are NOT inexpensive to rebuild due to the extensive machine work required whenever the case is opened up.
I would recommend maintaining the same bore size for durability.

Probably less expensive in the long run to get a used 3.0 or 3.2 and rebuild it over time while you drive the 2.7.

Mine was all original. It had 12000 on the clock at tear dwn.
(Some time in its life the thermal crap had been removed and a real fan installed) The guides had enough clearance to drive a Trk between valve stem and guide ! (You could actually wobble the valves.) It did need everything .....But it was running ! LOL It had lived most its life in the Seattle area..(Not too hot)
