A reputable engine builder in my area recently told me that the "Made in Germany" Glycos are ok.
Is there any basis to this? Are the 3.2 glycos made elsewhere now?

Sorry for the slight off-topic, I wish to ask a question about main bearings (as opposed to rod bearings). Why was the part number for the main bearing shells changed in 1976 for all models (911, 911S, 911/83, Carrera 3.0 and Turbo 3.0) if the they remained the same size?

I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that the Vertex advertising now includes text that says "Glycos, Made in Germany"? Or I could be a little too much of a conspiracy theorist...

I have a new set of 2.4 Glyco's rod bearings. The box reads "made in Poland"

This is where you can check for markings to make sure they are authentic.

I am a Porsche tech and i just checked our parts catalog. The part number for 3.0 engine crank bearings and GT3 crank bearings are the SAME. When you go to the bearings for a 3.0 engine it supercedes to the 996 GT3 bearing part number 96410190100. List price is $840!! I also don't know what to do as i am afraid of using the glyco ones in my 3.0..

Well don't pay $840 for them. Discounted dealers have them for ~$660. That part number includes the #8 main bearing insert. You can typically reuse the old #8 bearing so you may want to consider re-selling the new #8 that is included with 96410190100 for around $200.

Bump -- anyone know the part number/source? I'm looking for them as well. Seems rather pricey at ~$450/set. What bearings are they mating these up as? thanks, Mike

Ask Pelican if they can share some more specifics on the Clevite 77 bearings. They now show them in their catalog for 2.7L and lower engines

Just purchased a set of Clevite rod bearings. They are a "HX" series bearing developed for NASCAR racing with a dry film lube. Check out the Clevite web site for a detailed description. They fit the rod perfectly.

+1 (and for what engine)
I do find it ironic that the mahle/clevite pdf has vehicles(probably tractors) I've never head of, yet do not list Porsches. They also have Yugos -- who the hecks rebuilding those :-) Mike

I emailed Steve a few weeks ago, and he said he had his replacement bearings in stock. They supposedly require a new notch cut in the rod. I asked about price but didn't hear back.
I'm proceeding with Glycos, since mine were made in Germany in Feb. 2010.
