Porsche Crest Rebuilding a 901/16 engine 2.0 1969

Hello, I been searching All around the world for a set of piston and cylinder for my engine, but apparently they are no longer in production. My engine is a 901/16 with a compression ratio of 8.6:1. My car is a 911 t manual karmann coupe from 1969. The pistons are diameter 80 mm. I have been offered pistons and cylinder set that have a compression ratio of 9.5:1. I observe that the shape of the piston is completely different, so I am concerned that it won't be compatible with my cylinder head. Can someone help me an give me some guidance with this. Thanks.

Hi,

The original iron cylinders, and even Biral ones are NLA; everything from Mahle is all Nikasil which is really a good thing.

The main thing for you is making sure that your pistons are for the '65-'69 deep-chambered heads, NOT the '70-'73 shallow chamber ones.

If you post a picture of the ones you've been offered, it will be much easier to ID them and tell you if they will work or not.

Could there be any problems with using Nikasil cylinders without having piston oil cooling?

Those pistons looks like they were made for the later (2.2-2.4) heads and will not fit your early ones without a lot of machine work (never a good idea).

The heads are all the same; only valve & port sizes differ. CR is determined by pistons.

I could make a hundred suggestions, but everything depends on your budget, performance expectations, and how the car will be used.

Those are 2.0 P/C's and will work just fine with your 2.0 heads.
