E28 Oiling Problem
I have an '87 535 with an oiling problem. It takes 20-30 seconds after the motor starts to develop any oil pressure. When it does come up, it jumps suddenly to 40-50 psi. I am preparing to drop the pan for a look. does anyone have any suggestions or experience with this problem?

Check the gauge and the sender first. The oil pump just doesnt kick on after 20-30 seconds, it runs the second you start the engine.

Yes, I know. I'm afraid that the pressure relief valve that's built into the pump, or the chain is hosed. I bought a new guage to test this thing out, and I couldn't believe what I was getting either.

So you are reading this off an external gauge? Yeah, there's something up with the relief valve then.
