Chris, yes definitely all the stock parts will fit the lower clamp in the original mounting positions. This includes the stock front fender, steering stablizer, ball joint and brake line brakets.

Here is a front view of the stock lower clamp assembly and front and rear views of the new lower clamp assembly. It is meant to be a bolt on and go part. Of course, there is a fair amount of "assembly required". As mentioned before, I can help preassemble ball joints for anyone that wants to ship me their stock parts first.

Stock...keep in mind this part is also hollowed out underneath to about a .180" wall thickness. This should give an idea how weak this part really is.

Here are the new clamps, front and back. Notice how all the extra structure is above the fender mount position and yet still does not interfere with the telelever arm. The new lower clamp will weigh about 1lb-9oz compared to around 1lb-2oz for the stock clamp. An increase in less than 1/2 pound for almost tenfold increase in strength should be worth the little extra weight. I may look at triming an extra 1 oz off but I don't think it is really necessary.

Also...anyone sitting on the fence with this deal, there may be some exciting news on having these parts made. Stay tune for more on this as I wrap up the quotes in the next few days.

Here is a top view to make it more clear what's going on with the design.

Jeez I dunno if a part like this is worth the money for a rider like me. I rarely push it and haveno intention of tracking the S. So what is the value in it for a daily rider who is not a knee dragger?

Cool

With a 1/2 pound more, I don't think I will be able to out run the gixer-mixer 2000.

Flatbutt, probably no gain for the type that type of rider...

although, I hear that those cute Island girls are very hot for anyone that is properly equipped.

captainnasty, that's 7oz more, not 8oz, lol. That should more than make up the difference.

Will this new setup raise the ride height of the front end?

Remember, the fork tubes will only slide up so far in the lower clamp (machined ridge on the tube).

Is there a height difference from the bottom of the lower clamp to the point where the telelever arm attaches compared to stock?

Philip

Phillip, all stock positions on everything. The dimensional relation between the ball joint and the bottom of the tripleclamp will be same as stock. Ride height as well as rake and trail are all unchanged.

I've always liked the way the bike handled but was just looking for less flex in the front end which would translate to more stability in turns and quick transitions. Perhaps if I had access to my own machinery I would have experimented a bit with different geometry, but I did not do that here.

A couple more pics. Phiilip, here you can see the locator ring on the stanchion tube at the bottom of the clamp.

Here's another one of the whole assembly.

Thanks Phiilip. I put a lot of time into these and am just trying to get a good price going on them so that anyone that wants them can get them for the same cost that I will pay for my set.

Actually, that's not entirely right. I'm really only trying to get some for myself at the best price possible and the only way to do that is if at least 10 others want them too. I just hope enough people like them enough to help me out in getting my own set.

Ok, here we go. Sorry for the delay in getting this started but there were a lot of details to get sorted out first. I am having the parts made by one of our Pelican members, captainasty. He runs a full service machine shop out of Memphis Tennessee. He does good quality work and has been able to get me some good prices on all the parts. He personally owns two Boxercup bikes himself so he is looking forward to working on these parts and will pay special attention to all the details involved with them.

Here are the prices and options for the tripleclamps that Mike (captainasty) was able to work out for me. I sent him a drawing for a two bolt top clamp also and he was able to give me a good deal on that option as well anyone that is interested in that version. Note- anyone going for this option should be fully aware of the handlebar position changes discussed earlier in this thread before choosing this one. In order to get the best prices, the tripleclamps are going to be available as a full set of top and bottom clamps together at this time. We need to have a minimum of 10 sets of parts sold to get these prices. Here are the prices and options that will be available.

1. Single Bolt Top Clamp Assembly and Lower Clamp Set _____$495 USD

2. Double Bolt Top Clamp Assembly and Lower Clamp Set ____$570 USD

These prices will include all necessary new stainless steel bolts and washers where required and a new BMW roundel for the top clamp. But wait...you also get an anodized finish in your choice of black or clear included in the price. The clear anodize will be over a lightly hand brushed aluminum surface. If you choose unfinished raw aluminum you can deduct $15 from the total price. Shipping is not included in the price and will be arranged on an individual basis. I don't expect shipping within the 48 US States to be more than $10-15 via UPS as an example. If you want me to disassemble and assemble ball joints etc, a small additional fee will be required to cover additional postage for the extra weight.

Due to the nature of add-on motorcycle parts, I will be including a disclaimer that shows you are assuming any and all risk involved by changes made to your motorcycle. However, I will say that my background includes a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering and 20 years experience in the design and manufacture of completely unrelated products. Mike and I are providing the best possible quality and attention to detail on some parts that should add a smile to your faces and add some significant torsional flex reduction to your front suspension of the R1100S. These Tripleclamps are not intended to change suspension geometry or affect the performance of the shock, spring or damping characteristics of your front suspension in any way. These clamp are also not intended to provide any weight reduction over the stock clamps. There is in fact a few onces gain in each clamp since they are replacing very thin cast aluminum stock pieces.

If you have any additional questions or want to put your order in for a set of clamps let me know here as well as confirm via email to fshartley@adelphia.net . I have sent Mike a deposit for half the cost of the ten sets to get started, so the parts should be available before Christmas. After shopping this job around to many different machinise shops I'm confident that this is a really good price for parts like this and I am passing the full value on to any of you that want to join in on this deal. Let's get some confirmed orders going before my wife checks my bank withdrawal this month.

Sounds good ... I'm in for a double bolt set in black. I have RD's barbacks that I'd like done in the same black finish. If I send them along do you think it's possible?

Dan, I'll check with Mike and see if he can put the barbacks in with the order for black anodize. It shouldn't be a problem. Send me an email and I'll get you on the order list. This will be the ultimate set up for the above bar mount guys. The extra clamping area should help secure the extended upper tubes a bit more.

Either clamp should be good, but the under bar mount guys need to be absolutely sure the bar position will work for them if they want the two bolt top clamp. I'm still undecided myself, but the lower bar works pretty good for me too.

Dan, it's not a problem. I'll just need them before the clamps are sent. It's a batch thing.
