Here you go EZ. This is a lower clamp example that I still have waiting for an install from the last run. Clear anodize.

I just got the word from Mike that he will have shop time scheduled for starting our parts in 2-3 weeks from now. I will try to nail down an exact start date later on but for now that is what it looks like for scheduling the job. It should take only about 1 week to machine all the parts and a few days more to get them anodized and shipped out to me.

I have made contact with everyone on the list so far and received deposits from most of you and am waiting on a few more to come in. I will be sending the deposit money on to Mike in a few days so he can order material. All the parts should be in my hands within one month and we will start making final payments and shipping arrangements as that date gets closer.

There are a few of you that may still be considering getting in on this R1100S triple clamp opportunity. Well, you officially have 2-3 more weeks to make up your mind. I will take more orders and deposits for triple clamps, key holders and fork caps during that period only. We will run all the parts that have deposits down on them at that time.

These triple clamp runs don't come up very often and may not come up at all again. This V3 run may be it for me. Third time's a charm, so don't miss out if you think you would like a new awesome handling R1100S.

EZ, the cutouts can not be added to an existing clamp without additional setup. The way Mike makes the clamps is by holding down the whole oversized rectangular billet and cutting the entire top half of the part. The billet rectangle is then flipped over and the lower profiles are cut and the 90% completed clamp is cut free of the original rectangular billet.

Anything done outside of this process would required completely seperate programming and fixturing. He could do it for you but it would cost whatever extra is required for his basic shop rate. Mike is pretty much going out of his way to make these relatively small runs of parts for us as it is so I would rather not push any extraordinary favors from him at this point. He can do it I'm sure but you would have to negotiate a price with him.

On the other hand, These cutouts would be very easy to make with a dremel tool or even a small end mill and a drill press. I can provide you with an exact 1:1 template of the cutout profile that you can overlay and trace on to your top V1 clamp. By using a small diameter endmill or dremel bit you should be able to cut these profiles out fairly accurately.

This is of course only if I actually had the high bar tab dimensions to make the correct profile, which I don't. I have asked several times if someone could provide these dimensions for me but I still do not have them. I need to turn in the part files to Mike in the next few days and am consudering just leaving the cutouts off the V3 clamps all together. They are totally not necessary anyway and I would rather not have them detract from the clean look for those guys that will have the low mount bars. I can just provide a sketch of the angular locating position relative to the pinch bolt slot on the new top clamps with every top clamp I ship out for anyone that is using high mounted bars.

Scott,

Personally I would prefer them not to have the cutout on the top clamp. I like the clean look without them but then again I am only one voice of the many getting the V3 clamps and mount my bars under the clamps.

Also Scott I was wondering the if the lower clamps are any different V1, V2 or V3.

Thanks,
Brandon

Brandon, the lower clamp layout is the same for all versions. I optimzed the design based on the space available. No need to change the design since it works very well as it is. I changed the top clamps only because I could and it was a fun challenge. Mike was good enough to let me play around a bit with the top clamp designs as long as the major dimensions stayed the same.

One reason I felt like changing the top clamp design was to keep each run somewhat exclusive. Another reason was to see if a different design may spark some new interest in the clamps in general. I personally like all of them and will probably keep my V2 version on my own bike, although I will likely get a V3 too because I think it is going to look really awesome.

Brandon and tm, I'm with you on the cutouts. Since they are completely non structural and are only there for alignment purposes, there is no reason that the alignment can't be done with other visual clues. I referred to this with V1 and V2 clamp runs as well and there is no reason to change things now. I will provide sketches of the proper alignment of the high mount bar tabs along with each clamp set I send out. Thanks for your input guys.

Motoyoyo,
I see your drop dead date is 2 to 3 weeks from the Sep 25th. Can you provide a firm deadline? If I sell my truck I'll be able to buy them and still get a birthday present for my wife ... and although I'm sure she'd agree the clamps you have designed are jewels, I'm also certain there'd be a story in the paper about a young man tragically losing his life in a accident were I to buy them instead of present for her.

...scott, you should wait a few more weeks, as aluminum is slated to drop a little in price!

j_hurricane, I don't have a firm deadline but it likely won't be any sooner than "2-3 weeks after Sept 25" If you really want a set and can't muster the regular 50% deposit, I could probably let you reserve a set for a $100, non refundable deposit placed before that date. If you can't come up with the rest of the payment within 3 months from Sept 25 then you forfeit the deposit and I will offer the set to someone else. I want this to work out for you. That is about as good a situation as I can offer since I will have to cover the whole cost myself until you can pay them off. It is a worthwhile risk for you IMO and you would enjoy the clamps a lot if you decide to buy a set. PM me if you want to discuss any more details.

For anyone else that has already paid the $285 deposit and for some reason needs to bail, I will refund all your money as soon as another buyer is found for your triple clamps. Hopefully this will not be the case for any of you, but I just want to assure you all that your good faith deposits that I need to get things started are appreciated and honored if sheit happens between now and then.

flatbutt, geez man what is it going to take to get you fully on board once and for all I have had at least a couple others inquiring about buying either a top or bottom clamps separately. As I have stated before, I will only be selling these clamps as a set. This is not because I want to extract the most money I can from everyone, but because these clamps only perform to the level they need to if they are used together as a set.

If a billet lower clamp that is in the order of 2-3 times the strength of the stock lower clamp is used with a stock top clamp, the results would be far worse than the whole stock clamp setup. These clamps need to be fairly evenly matched in strength in order to perform to their optimum. Anything less would just be plain unsafe. This is not at all what this project is about. These triple clamps are offered as a set because they add tremendous improvement to the handling of the R1100S. There is no useful purpose for them in any other configuration.

These are nice looking pieces (understatement) My fear is the installation. Would I be in over my head if I have only ventured into minor up keep and maintenance on my R1100S up until this point?
