When is BMW going to start putting this bike on their corporate website as more than a teaser? Like with prices and specs.

They have a problem with intro's. By the time a model is released it's at least a year old and old news. i.e. the "unstoppable" 800Gs.

Steve, no one ever said that BMW's marketing departments are blessed with brilliant people... quite the opposite holds true, actually!

If they are not brilliant, it is because those at the top are calling the marketing shots and the brilliant won't work under those rules.

I think oilheads are more narrow than airheads.
I also think that boxer will not benefit a lot from water cooling, as it's well cooled with an airstream. OHC is good addition, but it's already there in HP2S, so we need to wait while it will propagate to another models.

IMO a "new boxer" is already on the drawing tables. It has the radial valve train of the HP2 S but the variable cam timing parameters of the new S100RR. Thats where the twins are going, at least the ones used to keep the tradition alive.

Well BMW might be slow to produce their bikes, but not the slowest!

"2008 Aprilia V4 1000

Hi everyone ; I,ve just recieved my latest Australian motorcycle news magazine that we get every 2 weeks down here and there was an artical and an artist impression of what that bike should look like.
Most of the time the bike when released comes in pretty close to the artist picture in the mag. I tell you its finaly going to look like a pretty mean good looking machine in V4 configiration with a claimed 170 HP out put."

So Aprillia took almost three years from when we first heared about it until we saw it!

There are only 2 boxers left: the RT and the GS. IMO, they are letting the boxer die off and make the same mistake they made in the '80's. And I think they will not get away with it again either. There's some very thickheaded guys up there at HQ.

BMW should realize there is a reason companies like Guzzi and Ducati are still in business: they stay true to their heritage.

BMW let their engineers do what engineers do, while forgetting that heritage.

There are also 2 HP2s and R.

The HP2's are true niche bikes and the R is a REAL good alround bike but lives in the shadow of the ever so capable GS...

I would not hold my breath on any new Boxer for a while either... you might turn blue!

There are some folks who keep an eye on said heritage, Gijs... but the folks who are pushing into the "main stream" i-4 sector are slightly outnumbering them...

I hope they'll realize quickly that they'd loose a significant market segment if they turn completely away from the boxer... I know quite a few people who sold their 800GS quickly infavor of a Boxer model...

It's just not quite the same... especially with all the issues they have with the cooling systems on the 800 motor!

Why do people have their panties in a wad over the lack of new versions of Boxer models? The R1100S lasted 7 or 8 years, and the R12S isn't nearly that old yet. The RT has been constantly updated, but hasn't had a MAJOR overhaul since the move to the Hexhead engine. Similarly with the GS.

The LT is the model that is the oldest in the entire BMW lineup. I would personally be more upset if the LT went another 2 or 3 years without an update, as there is a much bigger market to be lost in that part of the lineup if it continues to sit by the wayside.
