I guess the only way to find out if BMW can make a chain and forks work better than the new front ends and shaft improvements of late, is to buy one of the new one liter bullets. The HP2 is sooooo much fun already as compared to the R11S, K12S, and R12S.........that its hard to believe a fork and chain can add very much..........but what the heck, may as well try one out from the initial batch coming (sept-nov) this very year. Of course with only 175 RWHP it'll be a slug to some, but perhaps us old people can get you'st to it.

I'll agree with the Dr. on that. Lot's of ways to skin a cat. I'm not married to either one.
Pros and cons to each. I'm just saying, that I haven't spent years blindly worshipping the roundel and mocking bikes with telescopics and chains, and then immediately jumped on the bandwagon the second the chain and forks are faired by something with a roundel. That is the only thing I'm saying is mental illness. And ONLY to people who are that narrow minded and hypocritical.

Chewie, I talk pretty much the same way in person and on here. Not sure what basis you have to blather about what I would or wouldn't say in person. I'm friendlier in person, but only because 90% of folks you meet in real life aren't so hypocritical as a very very select few are here.

Nothing wrong with being a fan. I've had up to 5/6ths of my bikes be BMWs before and run a shop specializing in BMWs. I'm not sure how someone not at least a little narrow minded or mentally off could think I'm not a fan or want BMW to fail. I've put my money and career where my mouth is on that, and have left a much more lucrative field to work on mostly beemers. I walk the walk just as much as I talk (which is admittedly a-lot / too-much) I just don't buy into slavish, lockstep, all-hail-the-roundel, knee-jerk automatic praise. Or disparage people who don't blindly march in lock-step with me. Proud of that too.

Hey Chewie, any fires around your area? The news coming out of Victoria is a bit grim.

We are away from it (150kms?) but we have a light ash covering the cars here, the wind has just come up and must be from the ocean and has cleared the sky a little. We live opposite a parkland area (a small rd between us) and the wind yesterday was whistling right through the parkland to us - we dont want fire here but then who does.

Marysville was pretty much taken out completely. Heard that some residents were told to stay, but that place is a town sitting under huge trees - news is they cant even get into some places yet - 35 confirmed dead throughout the state - grim indeed.

Yesterday was a freaky day.

My Mrs Bro is over in Churchill fightin' as we speak. edit) he's a firey

Leave early or stay and defend - man you really are living on one chance only if you stay aren't yah? Scary stuff!

Well, they have used the same kind of fuel injection that dellorto makes for the M-cars. So dellorto, i guess, has developed this new set of injection system for the bike!

Awesome (and scary) photo Chewie.

Best of luck with that and hope it stays at least that
hundred fifty klicks away.

Cheers Rog'

I think in that video link I put up you can see a fire move up a hill, like it came out of a flame thrower - very dry, plenty of undergrowth, crazy winds = who knows.

I wont be staying and defending here, I'll be off down the road to the lake. It would have to get pretty crazy for us to get affected but then when you see ash in the air (gets picked up from the fire, goes up high and then drops down somewhere else) you sought of screw your nose up look outside and wonder what the heck is going on!

Thanks though, just need to see how the poor buggers up in the North and West go, hope the weather changes.

...don't ever count out a fire, Chewie...

this one started about 60 miles to the east of San Diego and it reached the city limits of El Cajon (20 miles east) within 2 days... and kept coming!

This is downtown San Diego in front... with the harbor and North Island Naval Air base...

Wow.... Just watching the news. 6 significant fires in Victoria. 65 perished, many more expected when they can go through the rubble of burnt out homes. 700 homes lost so far. One fire with a continuous front of 80 ks.

Stay safe Chewie and family.

(Sorry for the hijack, but this is a bad day for thousands of Victorians)

No, don't be sorry... I (and I am sure many others) feel your pain... I too hope that all with turn out well for you guys down under...

Since I have been living in San Diego, we have had 2 fires in which THOUSANDS of homes have been lost... close friends of mine were affected and I can only imagine what it must feel like.

My thoughts are with you guys!
