She's Back
Well after a crash this past summer and having shoulder surgery afterwards, I finally got motivated to start doing the paint work on all the panels which I had purchased. I bought an aluminum cage on EBAY for a 100 bucks and that was bent and the hardest pill to swallow in the rebuild was buying a one new for 680 bucks. The part listed for 850. It was worth it though after messing with the bent one. So much time had transpired I could not go back to the seller from EBAY. He told me it came from a complete bike that had not been crashed. Well when I got the new one I realized how bad it was bent. Just an FYI for anyone planning to make the same purchase. Then the shock tower was cheap at 100 bucks, new ignition switch with a gas cap and lock for the rear seat a few hundred. I was able to get a wiring harness with the buckets and fuses and relay's intact for another hundred Also, something someone may find interesting is that I put a Rockster Gauge Cluster on it. So far based on the RPM's and the speedo, it is pretty much as accurate as the factory one, but looks so much better and more modern. Its like it freshened the whole bike up.
Not counting my labor, all the monies involved with the repair made it about a 2000.00 mishap. I can't imagine having to pay someone to paint it or worse yet buy the panels painted. I decided to do the bag covers in blue and put the checks on them. The thing almost looks as good with bags now as without. I had wanted to do this since I first purchased it. She looks naked without the boxercup writing on the top.
I love those side bags. The color matched bags look so much better on that bike!

Actually I kind of agree with you on the decals. No problem to put them on later and clear over them. The last time I painted it, I put enough clear on it that the decals could not be felt. This time it was a quickie as I was trying to get ready for riding season. Of course it could grow on me because it does look clean. |

Hell no, it was out of pocket. It hurt. I've never gone the full coverage route as it used to be to expensive. But the wife called the other day to add full coverage and it was maybe an extra 200 a year. I told her, do it. Liability and Comp was only 120 a year.

![]() Jeff, the website claims delivery for those risers is 3 to 8 weeks. Just curious, how long did you wait? Shame you loose heated grips with the risers. |

Well I bought them used from a guy on here or in the classified section. They are made in Germany I believe. But if I recall he had stated something about a long delivery time. But he had to order direct from oversea's whereas now this oppracing has them, but I'm sure they are just having to order them from the manufacturer. The problem is more than likely they will have to make them due to the age of the R1100S. But they are beautiful and that beauty certainly enhances the riding experience visually. Not to mention they are adjustable 3 ways from Sunday. Plus if you happen to have the gold ohlins adjuster knob it matches perfectly. I'd like to find some bar ends that color gold, but all the ones I've seen are way off. Because of the clip ons you need to go a different type of bar end. Bascially the ones from most all Aprilia's will work.
FYI, the 60MM will work with the factory throttle cable, but the 70 & 80's require the throttle cable upgrade. The best part though as I just found out, if you wreck and just break one piece, you can order just that one piece. and thanks for the compliment |

Hi Jeff, I really like the Rockster gauge cluster. Is it plug compatable or did you have to make some wiring mods? If it is plug and play, I'm going to find one and do the swap. My gauge cluster has a weird wrinkle in the housing above the speedo and that, along with the fact that I find the orange on black hard to read, would make the swap worthwhile for me. Thanks in advance, Fred |

No Problem, the reason I did it was that I found my cluster for 200 bucks and I just thought it was worth the gamble to buy it and try it. One tip though, when you are searching for parts on ebay, use the R1150R versus Rockster. Find someone who has a lot of parts and send them an email asking about the gauge. Also if you see a photo of one they will look wrong because they have this bracket on them. Once removed the cluster is identical in size and shape to the R1100S.

Went a slightly different route on the gauges. Found two different trashed Rockster clusters. One with a tach, but speedo in kilometers and the other with a MPH speedo and no tach.
The white back housing and front black housings are trashed on both. I doubt that either unit works. Doesn't matter though, because all I need are the gauge faces and needles (appear in great shape on both units). $133 all in + my labor (of love!). Don't know when I'll get around to making the changes because we're retiring and moving from TX to NY and I need to ride the bike up there at some point. I've also got a pristine Laser Boxer II exhaust system and chip awaiting install (thanks to PeteZ). I'm late to the R1100s party, but glad to be here. Bought the bike in SC last Dec and had a great ride back to Texas. I'll take some pics and post a thread when I do the gauge rebuild. Probably late summer or fall. Rgds, Fred |
