Outside temp not working correctly
The outside temp on my newly aquired 99 Boxster is not reading correctly. Any idea why? Maybe a new sensor?
Thanks Mike |

Sensor is mounted in the front grill if you didn't know may be missing or out of position

How far off is it? Does it change, or does it always read the same? If it changes, does it change in response to the temp (eg. is it always x degrees off)?

I've got an article on the front bumper that shows where this sensor is located, check it out here: Pelican Technical Article: Boxster Front Bumper Removal - 986 / 987

Apologies for the hijack, but is outside temp gauge an option? I have a 2004 and don't believe I have one and wish I did.

The outside temp display was part of the OBC option. You can tell a car that had a factory one by the lower left hand stalk on the steering column. But early cars you could get the temp display only portion of the OBC just by having the dealer enable it. Others have enabled some of the features by the use of switches often on the radio surround.

Sounds like the temp sensor itself is bad - it just unclips. At they mention in this thread, you might try to swap with a known good one, if you have a friend with a Boxster.
