Searching for a new phone..........

I'm considering replacing my old 5S iPhone with either a Google Pixel 2 or maybe an LG V30. Anyone out there with experience with these phones? It's easy to find superlatives, but what I want to hear about are the negatives! What say ye?

An app store riddled with Malware is enough for me.

I just replaced my 5S with a Pixel 2. I hated the Apple and was glad to see it finally die. I thought it was a better computer than a phone.

I'm happy with the Google so far. A couple maneuvers are not as intuitive as the iPhone. Maybe that's my familiarity with the Apple product, maybe the Google is a little clunkier to operate from function to function. But the camera is better. The reception is better. The WiFi is better. Rest of the family is on Apple, so I don't have FaceTime and music to share with them anymore, but those are small issues. I'm happy with the switch, but then again I really hated my iPhone.

If you like the Apple platform just not the old phone, try and iPhone 8. Att had the BOGO around Christmas and I’ve been super happy with it. I was looking at going to android but having to buy new apps and losing my Apple Watch kept me drinking the Apple koolaid.

Stay with Apple. I've had all versions of the iPhone up until the iPhone 6+. I then went to a Samsung Galaxy S8.
I've had it just over 12 months and it's got a tired battery and a cracked screen after a minor drop. I've never had a cracked screen before.
And it's not as refined as an iPhone IME.

I'll be going back to Apple when it comes time for a new phone. (Less than 12 months to go)

You've already switched, so I'm not trying to talk you out of it, but you realize that the 5S was ancient in technology terms, and if you'd had an Android phone that was as old, it would probably have been as bad or worse? A new iPhone would probably have been at least as good as the Pixel 2.

I used to be pretty hard core pro Android. I had the first 2 Google phones and then had another Android after that. I eventually switches and I'm very happy. Apple generally does a great job with the hardware. I think it's usually better than the Android stuff. Back in the day, Android had more software features than Apple. These days, the two are pretty neck-in-neck that way.

I have an apple 6 for a company phone and a Samsung 8 for personal use. Hands down the Samsung takes better pictures. The Apple is slightly better in ease of use for phone. App and data usage about equal. I think the apple has better battery life too.

The iPhone 6 is a 3 year old phone. They had the 6S and skipped number 7 to go to a 8 and of course the 10 for stupid money. How old is the Samsung?

I still love my 6S

I love Samsungs Active Phones.

I had a S5 Active and now an S7 active, both have been dropped, submerged and beat to hell and keep coming back for more.

My S7 comes off the charger at 6AM and lasts me until 11 PM even 2 years later.

I use NAV all day long and email all day long along with text and some limited phone calls.

I would never own a Samsung Phone unless it was an Active phone.

My S5, was placed on the tonneau cover on my Mini one afternoon, I took off up the street and heard my phone go flying off the back of the truck bouncing down the road at 25MPH.

I picked it up, put the back cover back on (The S5 had removable covers and changeable batteries) turned it back on and it worked perfectly, the screen was fine too.

I am abusive with my phones, and could never have anything other an an active.

It all depends on your needs.

I need to use VPN to access my office and all of my files, and even remotely operate my office computer. You cannot do that with iPhones. I regularly do this with my Samsung (S8) and Tablet (Tab S3)

Just upgraded to an iPhone 8 today. I had a 6S but it had a crack in the glass and a battery that was going soft. Then Thursday I dropped it in the toilet. You're not supposed to do that.

My Galaxy S5 (last model with a removable battery) was still humming along. Only reason I replaced it with an S9 was due to it not working on AT&T's network. Nothing wrong with the Android phones IMO.

I have an S8 since January. It took some time to get adjusted to the Iphone 6. I had a BB for 6 years that I truly loved.

Do you wear scrubs?

My wife works in hospitals and always says the phone falls out of the scrubs back pocket and into the toilet.

I work in a hospital but don't wear scrubs. I did drop it in a toilet in the hospital. The water was not yet "used" at the time.

Narrowing down the choice..........

After doing lots of online reading and talking to the phone store reps a couple of times, I think that the wife and I narrowed the choice down to either an iPhone 8 and 8 Plus or a Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. She gets the bigger one! Since I am currently a Verizon customer, I can buy one iPhone and (eventually) get the other one for free. The downside here is that the iPhone 8 has a relatively small battery. The Pixels have much larger batteries, but I have to pay for both phones! I just learned that the Pixel 3 is supposed to come out in October so I/we might wait until then and maybe pick up Pixel 2 phones at fire sale rates. Who knew this would get so complicated? The search goes on!
