That's awesome. I love hearing the stories from long term ownership. Sadly I don't think there's a new car for sale today that I would take, for the same money, over a cool older one.

The 911 after 34 years almost wins, but still have the GT6+ that started all my craziness 5 years earlier.

The longest you’ve owned a car
I bought my first sports car June 15,1972. It was/is a 1971 Jaguar E type roadster which I have to this day. That works out to 46 years. On June 15, 1982 my son was born. Once this coincidence was discovered, I was forbidden to even consider selling the Jag. So the clock will keep on ticking, hopefully for a few more years on this one.
A year or two ago, I acquired a 1973 911 E Targa which belonged to my late uncle, the original owner. Although my stewardship is technically just a year or so, we, my son and I, consider it to be a family heirloom, now in our collective possession for a total of 45 years. |

51 years for my 66 912 bought 3 months old while in Germany compliments of the US Army. Drove it for 2 years in Germany, shipped it home and drove it 3 years. Then stored it for 47 years. Just brought it out this spring. Not sure of the future plans. Garage ornament at present.

A friend of mine just bought a 76 beetle convertible from the original owner.
Very sad that he had to sell it because he couldn't drive it anymore because of his age. He sent his wife out with the key when he came to pick it up.

The longest you've owned a car
Since purchasing my first car at age 14 years old, which was a clean 63' VW Beetle with a sliding sunroof out of Nevada, even before having my learners permit for driving, I have since owned about 85 cars and the best of those were Porsche's. I first started driving Porsche's in Dec. of 1982, and have since owned 14 of them out of the 85 cars. From my first 72' 911 S 2.2 liter mechanical injection targa to my 2008 997 S, that I now presently own together with a 1987 911 Cabrio in Red with Black top and interior, I have enjoyed all of them. I purchased the 87' Cabrio in 2007' with 54K miles on it and now I have 98 thousand miles as of this writing. The clutch just went out at 31 years and 6 months life of the car. I have driven that car from Michigan to Florida, to Niagara Falls, Canada to Chicago without any problems at all. I lived in Germany for almost 20 years, being able to drive at speeds of up to 178 mph on the Autobahn on long trips. I must say that it truly gets really hard and frustrating not being able to enjoy these cars the way that they were originally made to be enjoyed! Now, I am looking to purchase my 15th Porsche a New turbo S. I can say that 11 years is the longest that I have owned a car, and it's the 1987 911 Cabrio.

Australian delivered car, so original RHD. SSI's fitted as well as a Monty Muffler. It's a 10 point car now, after having a total engine re-build in 2015,owing to some oil leaks. Just lurve the thing!!!! |
