This brings up a point,
I have several very expensive tailored sport coats and suits rotting in my closet. Nice stuff from the Squire Shop in Cherry Creek back in the day.

What are they good for? Is there a market? I'll never wear them again... Plus they don't fit me anyhow, they've shrunk or something!

Back when I was a young 'un, I landed my first professional programming job, as a COBOL programmer for TransAmerica. We were required to wear ties, which I hated, but I sucked it up because I finally got the job I wanted. Pushed the envelope and found I could get away with wearing a bow tie, which bugged my manager (picture Lumberg from Office Space) but it was allowed and there wasn't squat he could do about it. Then HR came out with a new Employee Handbook, and made a huge deal where we had to read it and sign a statement that we had read it, etc. So I read it. And in there I found the phrase "All management personnel must wear ties" - but I couldn't find anything that said the worker bees had to wear ties. So the next day, I left the tie in the car. I walk in, and one of my co-workers instantly hits me up "Hey, where's your tie?" I told him that according to the new handbook, we're not required to wear one. I got called into my manager's office, and I explained to him that in the new handbook, it didn't say we were required to wear ties. He was flustered, but he couldn't find a hole in my logic. Over the next few days, my fellow coders started ditching their ties, too.

Some places have consignment shops...but I would donate to charity (Goodwill if you don't have one you like better) and take the write-off. Much easier.

I've been through this. I had a couple Hickey Freeman's (conservative, for Catholic hospital deals only), one Armani black label (trim fit), and half dozen Joseph Abboud's from 2000 thru 2010. I took them to a consignment store in Westlake Village when I retired and she wouldn't take anything but the Armani. Suggested I give the rest to Goodwill. That's just what I did. The Armani sold for $75

Anything more than five or six years old is outdated. The new style is super trim tailored. You gotta be just as trim to wear them. Not many of us late-50 and 60-somethings can pull that off. Are suits just date us.

You know, I have to ask, what is the point of a tie in the first place? who thought that up?

Seems like it has its roots in a convenient handle attached to the collar to drag someone around by.

Most folks wear the traditional version in places I go (but am rarely in CA). Now and then you see a millennial/youngster in a more hip version/output...but they usually look dorky...as if they had outgrown their suit. Too tight, pants too short and wrong shoe color. Most folks in the Eastern cities look like the slept in their suit...as they wore it on a bus or train during their commute. If your suit fits well and it is pressed/clean, that goes a long way. If I were to buy one today, it would look much like the ones I bought in the mid 2000s. A narrower tie maybe. Too close to retiring to buy too much more wardrobe anyways.

Fashion forward...

Where and why would you wear this, exactly? Kids today resemble Pee Wee Herman- except Pee Wee's clothes actually fit.

It's kids clothes. Grown adult- probably not so much.

I wear a suit and tie to work half the time (when I'm in office A), the other half I wear jeans or even spend the day in my bike kit (when I'm in office B). Yes, I much prefer working in office B.

In my personal life I have dressed like a slob for the last twenty years, but my wife is pressuring me to shape up, lose weight, get a younger-looking haircut, etc. So I suppose I will be doing so.

I like suits, actually, just not to wear every day. I like the traditional two button single-vent suit, a slightly more tailored look than the Brook Brothers box cut. Oddly enough, I "inherited" a bunch of suits from an older friend who passed away. These are gorgeous classic suits fit for an old school New York businessman, which he was. He was a slim man and my goal is to lose enough weight to wear them - which is about 15 lb away.

Haven't had a haircut in over two years. I wear it in a pony tail when at work events. I tell them my backup plan is to become a rock star.

I don't have many pictures at work...but was just sent this one (because I won an award). I deleted the presenter and identifying info to protect the innocent. My typical work suit...seems like the styling "sells" well here.

My 19 year old son (skater) is rebelling against that kind of stuff - his closet is full of 80s Tommy Hilfiger and Polo from thrift stores - really big pants. He often asks me if I put my daughters jeans on by mistake
When I was a kid I guess it was skinny ties and capezios- on and linen sport coats... HAHA

I walk about 6-10 miles (wear a fitbit) many days when in DC between buildings for meetings. When it is 95F with 95% humidity, it is hard to stay cool in a wool suit. It is not bad in the spring and fall.

That was me, circa 1984, or a bomber's jacket and black levis.

I like fashion and sewing. I think now fashion can be strange a bit. I tried to sew some clothes fpr men but it looked not so good. I have Brother CS6000i Sewing Machine. It is a bit difficult device for me, because I am newbie in sewing. P.S. this sewing machine is good, I bought it after reading some reviews on http://bestsewingmachinesguide.com/
