Every Time You Need a 10mm Socket
Although in my case, it includes 13mm sockets too.

I have a trick that only works if it is very cold and you are working outside. Being ill and/or pissed off makes it work even better.
Mix up some old oil and anti-freeze in a pan and put it under your truck/tractor. Everything you drop will fall in it, making you take your glove off and fish around in the slime to find it. Believe it or not, it's faster and easier than trying to find a socket in the snow.

Most of my tools can do that disappearing act. I have no doubt all my tool can transport themselves to random locations. I waste most of my time in the garage looking for tools. I can't image how the tools get in some places they do. Even my impact wrench itself can disconnect itself from the air hose, and go hide.
I have taken upon myself to put the tool back in the place it belongs if I am not actively using it. Now I spend a lot of time walking over to the tool box.

I bought a set of sockets back in 1970 when I first started working on my cars. I use that set for 90% of the work I do needing sockets. The chrome is worn a lot on the 13mm. I still have all the set except the 14mm, which broke when I used it on an impact gun. The 10mm gets lots of use, but I have never lost it for long. So 48 years later, I still have it. It can indeed transport itself to random locations.

If I see an estate sale I always head right to the garage and look for tools. Sockets and wrenches first.

Still have every single socket from the tools I got when I first started working on the 944.
Have temporarily had to hunt, but I have multiple, so may seek a second set to keep working; but make sure I get it all. I think it may have to do with being single and having my space to myself. That or I take the time to find it when I misplace it. |

![]() I grew up in a house with cracked and broken, mismatched dishes and flatware, my dad's tools were everywhere. I swore that one day I would have matching dishes and sets of tools that matched and were where they belonged. MrsWD is of a different mind. If it's cheap, she'll buy it. (I swear she would buy dog crap if it was on sale). So after years of bachelorhood and matching dishes I'm back with my mom. ![]() I'm not giving up on my tools. I have boxes of random tools that I use in emergencies, but I like my tool sets. ![]()

I have a hayseed repair shop. 16's rear their ugly head at least once a quarter. Thank God, I cherish them, because they are always there at the ready.
How about a 20? Anybody ever lose a 20mm? Anybody ever seen one?

Get yourself a 1980's era Toyota pickup! You'll be using all of those 11mm, 14mm, 16mm, 18mm sockets then! Back when I had my truck, I had an excess of 10/13/15/17, but lost all of my important 11/14/16/18. now, it's the other way around...

My 1986 El Camino has the power steering high pressure hose connected in a inconvenient place. I had to chase down a Snap On truck to get a 18MM crowfoot, line wrench. For some reason those are left out of the sets of tools I have. I have used it twice now after 27 years of owning the vehicle.
It had to be a crowfoot line wrench. Nothing else will work.

I bought a used 10MM MAC line wrench off of ebay. $10 It was splendid. Lost. I bet I would use a crowsfoot line wrench set often. Never even knew they existed. $250 for a 10mm to 18mm Snap On set. Ouch. However, they could pull double duty on regular nuts with far more grip than an open end set.
