Steve Carlton raises a valid point, find out what you can do that do without getting in trouble.
Personally I would recommend that until you know the above, just religiously put them back each time. Motivation; the way to solve people doing things is make your problem their problem. But there is much I do not know to try to come up with that. |

OK, inspiration from the concrete thread.
After garbage collected, make their cans 60# heavier with a bag of fast-set......

is this in a culdesack or a straight line street?
Is everyone street-parked or are there very few cars in the street? Is there a possibility that WM asked for the cans to be located together for speed of service? Give us some pics. If you do any kind of anger-based escalation you will absolutely lose, in ways you haven't even thought about yet. Light hearted comedy-style escalation might work, but it's a coin flip.

Well....I don't know how to respond Milt. I am not wrong though....don't know how many exact opposite experiences I've been privy to over the years...a bunch. What your dad's insurance covered is unheard of here, and other states. If a tree falls, and doesn't hit an insured structure (house)...no insurance I've known will cover that tree removal, and will NEVER pay for a neighbor's damage...not here. We have LOTS of storms, trees down all the time, and that's just the way it is...and always has been. So I'm confused...

Yes, it is legal in California, probably legal in Canada to cut tree hanging over the property line. Just because you don't like it, does not make it illegal.

There would be blood on the moon if this shiet happened in Ohio. Make those containers vaporize, even if you take a half day off work to dump somewhere and deal with the fallout later. Especially if the Mrs talked to them. I need my nitroglycerin pills just from reading this. I mean, if I needed them. Nut up and stir stuff up big time. THEY will not change.

I got so bored I looked up trash regulations
![]() In the city of Richmond Va (the last city I lived in), they are only concerned with placement and removal times of the trash cans off city property (streets/sidewalks). They do not mention where on the street/sidewalk it can be placed. Look is from somewhere from Ca? right? so I googled LA- Los Angeles: Containers must be placed at the curb by 6:00a.m. on the day of collection and removed no later than 8:00p.m. on the day of collection. On collection day all containers should be placed with the handles facing the house with at least 3 feet separating the bins and any other object at the curb. (no mention of which house)- but San Diego is different, they mention "your" home- San Diego: Set the authorized container on the street or alley, wheels against the curb and with the handle facing your home. ...Probably meant only for orientation purposes so the truck can latch onto it, but could be interpreted literally as the "owner's "home Then there were these 2 FAQS- I thought these were interesting. The first addresses "cans that have gone missing" with the word "stolen". uh oh.... which puts the damper on the idea of making them disapear. The second one is interesting too: Once the can is on city property... The owner loses some control over the can. This lack of control might not bode well for Look once the cans hit city property. Los Angeles FAQ: 21. Question: What happens when a trash or recycling container gets stolen? Answer: In order to have City-provided service, residents must have a container that is capable of being collected by the waste vehicles’ automated arms and flippers. If a container is stolen, the resident needs to immediately obtain a replacement container in order to resume waste collection services. The only assessed cost to the resident is for black trash containers; there is no cost for the collection and disposal of waste for eligible households. 22. Question: How can I stop my neighbor from using my trash, recycling, or greenery container? Answer: Once the container is at the curb for collection, you cannot stop neighbors from inserting waste into your container. We encourage the occasional overflow to be distributed to nearby containers for safe and litter free waste collection which sometimes results from overfilled containers. The big issue all three towns had with refuse was the idea that the cities do not want the cans stored on city property (steets/ sidewalks) outside the pickup window. They want the cans placed on private property out of sight, however, with these different wordings in mind on how the can is to be placed, it might be worthwhile to actually look up the local rules on the net. It only took a minute or two and could give clarification on how strong of a legal arm Look's situation is. Personally, I like the idea of putting "my" can in front of "their" house the best if there is no legal requirement that the trash can be placed in front of the owner's home, however, I would also take the time to address the neighbors directly, not asking them to discontinue doing it for the umpteenth time, but instead walking up to their door and asking: "Hey, we've asked you to not put the trash in front of the house. Is there a reason why you continue to do so?" Sounds smart ass, but it gives them the opportunity to explain their actions. There might be a legitimate reason. It might even lead to some productive discussion. Perhaps not. Once you get that answer, you'll also have a better idea of where to go. If that doesn't work, I'd go to trash can placement of my can in the street in front of their yard (assuming there is no legal recourse). It that doesn't work IED!!! ![]() Last edited by LEAKYSEALS951; 12-12-2018 at 03:52 PM.. |

Neighbor is not liable for neighbor's tree. Only the affected home-owner is responsible for his/her own property. 'Protect yourself' is the law. I once had one of my neighbor's trashy trees which would most likely have taken out my roof or all winter heating power to the entire neighborhood. She ignored my pleadings for years. I paid the half batty old lady half or most of it to get it taken care of. Good for all. Would have cost me much more for court orders bs. Later I found out her son was dating the sister of a tree company owner and that option was available all along. I had shoveled her walk taken pies and took care of her for most a decade. Neighbors can suk sometimes. |

Guy across the street from me planted his mailbox deadnutz center at the bottom of my sloped driveway which in most cases you gotta back down to get out of. For the four or five days of our typical summer it’s not a promble.
So naturlly it got knocked over just like I told him it would the day after he planted it. Good!, I was thinking but only temporarily. He goes and puts it right back up in the same bullzie spot. |

What does your neighbor do for a living? Would it hurt his business to be known publicly as an azzhat? You could post a YouTube video of his azzhatery and have the Pelican army click it into infamy.

Since I know what the answer is on calling cops here in busy LA, I thought what the hell, called the police station 20 min ago. Here's the answer.
Me: Neighbor put all three of their trashcans for trash collection in front of my house leaving their sidewalk completely empty free of city trash can. Is there anything you can do or advice I do so they can put the cans back in front of their house? Any possible way to send an officer to talk with them when time allows? Officer: Sir, your neighbor isn't doing anything illegal, or harmful to anyone. We will not send the police officer to your home. Its a civil matter between you and them. I suggest you talk to them and solve the issue. Is there anything else I can help you with? Hung up (more then likely called my a dub ass) |
