An understatement.

Why stoop? Take the high road. I like to gather information on people. Easy to do. On one people search site there is the "has worked at..." section. A little LinkedIn after that and you probably know where they work. I've gone through the neighbor's trash and culled out plenty on info. Very common when lawyers are involved with anything to have a PD do that.

So what do you do with said info? When you feel like you have the position, you simply say, "Hey, leaving your trash in front of my house, is that the sort of behavior that goes on at your company, xxxxx Enterprises? What about your mom's house on xxxxx Street? Do they do that there to? BTW, did you get a good rate on your auto loan with XXX Finance? Thinking about getting another car even though it would add to the parking problem."

they in in the street? i thought all bets are off if it is in the street?

like the neighbor could park a car there, no? my neighbor puts them kinda in my spot. its where i would put mine if they dont beat me there. i get it..they live in the roundest portion of our culdesac..by putting them on my side, the truck can reach them easier.

i doesnt bother me..i just encroach into my driveway space a bit with mine and leave room for my wife to come thru hot and not destroy a can.

and leaves..i kinda think once leaves come off a tree, they are everybodies business..

i HATE leaves.

Leaves are not everyone's business. They come from both private property trees and city/county property. Unless you're rural, then this doesn't apply. You're supposed to take care of debris in front of your house. People have forgotten that.

However, when the neighbor or his gardener blow their leaves onto your property, game on. Last time that happened to me I went out and took pics of the gardener's truck and comment that I couldn't see his city license displayed. Problem solved.

If all the cans are the same, just put your cans in front of the neighbor's house. Now there are cans in front of your house, and cans in front of the neighbor's house.

It's a little farther to walk, but the bottom line is you both only have one set of cans in front of each house.

i'm not not talking playing Fall Leaves soccer where you kick them back and forth between yards.

i blow mine (and i have no trees) in a pile and put it in a green bin and roll that bin over in front of Helen's house. i'm talking..my neighbors trees puking into my yard.. i kid you not, the pervailing winds clean my neighbors yard and deposits into mine. it is awful, but i have nothing i can complain about.

911? i have unauthorized leaves in my yard!

While that's true let me tell you about my experience with that. There was a large tree that hung over my fence and just about over the pool on a house I owned in the '80's. Many times during high winds that tree would fill my pool. One time a branch broke off and landed slap in my pool. I went over the fence and cut the tree down right to the top of the fence while the wife watched me from the window. They were renters and didn't seem to care but I would have done that if the owner lived there.

I did speak up about it once or 2wice asking them to contact the landlord. I guess I did him a favor, BUT, I left all the debris in their yard and went back over the fence.

So you made a minimum effort to deal with it properly, then trespassed and destroyed your neighbours property? Here you would get arrested for that.

Call the police but not 9-1-1 and tell them you're having problems with your neighbor. You spoken to him several times about the issue but it has not been resolved and you're worried that it will escalate to a physical situation which you don't want to happen. Explain that you realize no laws are being broken but the guy is just being an *******. You're making a complaint to go on the record if something were to ever happen.

If they tell you they can't help you ask them who you should talk to. Also tell them you posted the situation on PPOT and got a bunch stupid replies and you don't want to follow the advice given as you may in up in jail.

Here, anything hanging over your side of the fence, you are legally free to deal with as you see fit.

Seems to me it's getting down to being only one solution:

You asked for advice and got plenty, including a lot that could cause you problems. I didn't realize you knew in advance what the police would say or do. Or it was suggested you ask the waste management company or city resources, but I guess that didn't register, either. Sorry for trying to help- I don't know what the police would say, but I guess you don't want to spend a few minutes asking them on the phone to find out. So please forgive me. I look forward to seeing how escalation works out for you.

Calling the police would be worse than doing nothing. "Sorry to try to help," that sounds totally sincere.

No, what he did is completely legal in California. Probably legal in Canada too. Maybe going in the other yard is a bit borderline, but just a bit.

Trees hanging over the property line can be cut back to the property line. When the chunk fell in his pool, he could, and perhaps should, have made a big deal about it, the person who owns the property the tree stands on is 100% liable for the damages.

I'm still thinking that over-reaction and escalation are the only options

You right...until the last sentence. Unless the tree was dead, etc. and the neighbor was negligent in not removing it. A neighbor's healthy tree falls on your property....that's on you and your insurance....not him.

Who dumped a whole truck-load of fizzies into the swim-meet?
Who delivered the medical school cadavers to the alumni dinner?
Every Halloween, the trees are filled with underwear. Every spring, the toilets explode.
