If you do any kind of anger-based escalation you will absolutely lose, in ways you haven't even thought about yet.

Light hearted comedy-style escalation might work, but it's a coin flip.
Will do next Monday evening or Tue morning because they put the cans out around midnight.

No I have no anger issues and know for a fact yelling don't solve anything except for the time when this drunk btich open my van door with my kids in the back trying to climb in thinking its funny.

Hahaha, no real problems with them with the exception of the trash cans. We used to btich about them renting out half their house through AirBB. They advertised it as a great shooting location due to being in the hills and the vast view of the canyon. Every couple of weeks, there was a fooking film crew that took up all the parking, block traffic and lay their siht all over into my little front yard. They had a kid, that stopped real fast. All the other neighbor were really sick of the Airbb

All the suggestions that are illegal only put you in jeopardy.
I say go and politely yet bluntly ask "WHY do you do this?" and stand there and wait for an answer. Don't say another word. Just stand there, stare at them and wait for an answer.

If that doesn't work, then the following week, politely move their cans back in front of their yard. Now, if you accidentally tip over a can in such a way that garbage spills into their yard... Oh gosh, sorry. Let them pick it up.

You should've asked for Barney Fife...even Andy is too busy.

OK....so removing the cans, etc. is a no-go (for you....sometimes I just don't GAF and do schit anyways....call Barney if'n ya want to)...they'd get the same response if they called .

Start rolling their toters way down the street....EVERY single time. Nothing illegal there....no words, no confrontation...no schit.

Good luck Jeff...you've tolerated their bs WAY more than I would....and are a "good guy" too.... way more gooder than I are .

For a fee I’ll send MrsWD out to handle it. She’ll take then a cake, some cookies and sit down with them. In 2 hours she’ll know their life stories, names of all their pets and relatives dead and living, and have them asking if they can take your trash out and put it in front of their house. Oh, and bring the emptied cans back to your house for you.
She has a gift.

Have you evaluated if you may not be overreacting and letting this build up? Is this really that big a deal?

If it really is, then make an unsolicited offer 20% above market to buy the house and kick them out. Then you can pick your neighbors. That's what I'd do if I really cared.

Ok so maybe you didn’t like my idea to glue them shut...

How about this then:

If you have a good idea when the garbage truck shows up, go throw some nuggets of dry ice in his bin a few minutes before hand. When the garbage truck shows up, they will be emitting quite a fog (probably more prevalent on a rainy or damp morning). Bets are that the sanitation truck won’t load the ‘smoking’ bins. It sounds like it is perfectly legal to add to their garbage cans.

Alternatively, put in about a quart of polyurethane foam and let it expand. Before long, the usable volume of the cans willl be greatly reduced.

Well George, no one is hurt by it, but my wife and I sure dislike looking out the kitchen window seeing their cans on our sidewalk. My biggest PITA is when the garbage truck dumps their usual over flowing trash, some of it gets dumped on my yard or curb. It aint my wife that's picking that up, its me. I often drag their cans back over their side every Tuesday morning before I leave the house. On days I leave after 10, truck's already dumped so I drag their cans back over only because I don't want to look at it and their cans are filthy and stinky. Its never gets washed.

I tried buying that house before the current owner somehow purchased it. I offer over the asking and my offer was more then his when he sell it short during the last recession. Believe me, I tried like hell to buy it. I didn't get it. Now, he's sandwiched between us, not that it makes any difference.

How much is it worth to you? Evidently worth a bit of $. Try bribing them....seriously. I'll give you $ to stop. Not a course of action I would pursue, but it just might be a cheap way to buy the results you seek ...hth. On an installment plan....dangle a carrot.

If not....IEDs

Triple-dog dare one of the bratty neighborhood kids to hide their trash cans.
No one can resist a triple-dog dare, and your hands will be clean.
Or just ignore it. Either way.

Me: Neighbor put all three of their trashcans for trash collection in front of my house leaving their sidewalk completely empty free of city trash can. Is there anything you can do or advice I do so they can put the cans back in front of their house? Any possible way to send an officer to talk with them when time allows?

Officer: Sir, your neighbor isn't doing anything illegal, or harmful to anyone. We will not send the police officer to your home. Its a civil matter between you and them. I suggest you talk to them and solve the issue. Is there anything else I can help you with? Hung up (more then likely called my a dub ass)
Didn't I already explain this to you?

"22. Question: How can I stop my neighbor from using my trash, recycling, or greenery container?
Answer: Once the container is at the curb for collection, you cannot stop neighbors from inserting waste
into your container. We encourage the occasional overflow to be distributed to nearby containers for
safe and litter free waste collection which sometimes results from overfilled containers."

That's a great item to see in words. As a contractor I have often used the cans near by a job for light weight debris. Construction debris is technically not supposed to be placed in any municipal container, but I'm taking about some bagged sawdust and a few cut offs. No more than 20 lbs.

So occasionally someone will complain about me tossing my trash in their cans and I simply read back to them what is printed on the lid, "Property of the City of Long Beach."

No, I've not made any friends doing that. However, in over 25 years of installing windows I never once got a job from a neighbor who noticed me on their street, whether they walked over or not. I got 75% of my business by referral and the rest through advertising.

Growing up here in lala land, I knew the answer all along and posted it early on this thread. Since some of us suggested that I call anyway, so why not? I thought I exercise my tax dollar for one minute and make them boys in blue work for it.

We never put any trash in the neighbor's cans unless we are looking for a fight. I have had crazy people come over and complain about us filling their cans with our construction trash only because they feel its us and its heavy. One time, I told this neighbor that if I tip it over and see no construction material, he gets to pick it all back up. he was so sure that my men filled the can. I dumped it all over his driveway and it was trash from his own house. The gardener has filled the bottom half with branches.

I suggested the exact same thing.
For some reason, he refuses to acknowledge this most obvious solution.

Here's my guess.
You pissed off the last renter and he figured he'd get his day.
When he left he left a bbq or something and told the new renters that they could have it as long as they put their garbage in front of the crazy guy next door's house.
If you talked to them maybe they would tell you .....

You guys really don't think I have tried talking to them? I have never ask why and wait there for an answer. Most I get out of them is, Yeah, ok. Turn around and go back inside and hide. I normally don't see them.

The solution I suggested fixes this problem. You do not like all the cans in front of your house, put yours in front of their house then there will be less cans.

I have a similar problem, I will get a pic when if I get home before it is dark tonight. If not I will snap a pic tomorrow. It is called "The log dilemma"

I hate this time I year, I never see my house in the daytime from M-F.
