Y’all just need a better story, like “it was my fathers and I’m handing it down to my son so not for sale”
My uncle has an old Jeep people always ask to buy. His line: “it’s my nephew’s who’s serving in Iraq, so not for sale”

I ave already decided the next time someone really pushes me to sell, I will just tell them the truth, it was my dream car when the Carrera model was announced in 1984, I bought one and will not sell it for less than stupid money of 250 grand. Everything has a price, but no one is ever going to pay that.
I vividly remember sitting in the audience at War Bonnet Tech in March of 1983 when Porsche AG announce the upcoming Carrera model and had sneak photos and the full specs of the model and the long list of improvements from the SC model. I was drooling like a teenager with their first Playboy magazine.

I have had about as many people ask me to adopt them as offer to buy the Cobra.

You would be surprised. 914s have inflated with the classic car bubble as well. 944s (and variants) are climbing now. Finding affordable P-Cars that don't require stupid money to be daily drivers is getting difficult.

I missed out on a really great 914 a few months ago for $6.5K. It was parked in front of a driveway with a "for sale" sign. I called the owner & when I went to look at it, there was a guy waiting who said he'd already agreed to buy it over the phone. He had the $6.5K cash in his pocket which he said he got out of his mayonnaise jar.

A friend of my Dad's had a 356 Cab...he owned it for decades and took very good care of it. Someone knocked on his door one day. He opened the door and the person asked about his car. He saw over his shoulder another guy looking at it (his mechanic) and the guy gave a thumbs up. He opened a suitcase with $75k cash and asked to buy the car.
He took the money! ![]()
