I知 going to do it... Drive the 43 year old 930 to Luftgekuhlt...

I decided to drive the car the 1250 miles to Hollywood. I知 leaving tomorrow night after work and hope to make it to Great Falls tomorrow night.

We will see how it goes and if this was a terrible decision... worst case, it will make for a great story.

It should be a breeze if the car is well maintained. It's a 911, after all. Have a safe trip.

Sounds like fun. This one is all about the journey with your kid, not so much the destination.

I have done that drive a few times and had a hard time not speeding after I got past the border going toward Calgary, nice and wide open. You camera busted me for speeding near the University on the way to Banff. The few times I cross Sweetgrass, I found the our custom agents stone faced and some were pretty rude. Life goes on. Have a great drive. I have a 930 (88) as well.

Be safe. Awesome adventure! I never took my 930 on a trip. A mistake.

I don't drive mine enough. It really likes to eat up the highway miles . A great road trip car. Sure, it is no modern Mercedes, but surprisingly comfortable.
Good luck, sounds like an awesome trip

Don't forget the 1250 miles back Should be fine if maintained. Porsches are meant to be used afterall.

I am sure it will be a fun trip Uncle B. Would appreciate a couple of pics enroute.
Just got a speeding ticket of $111 cdn in our city for doing 62 in a 50 kph zone. That is only about 8 mph over the limit. Safe travels.

The newest car I own is my 1978 930, It is my go to car for road trips.
If you have been driving it around town and it has not broken down it should be fine on the road. Likely the biggest issue you will have is going to fast, Good luck and have fun!

That is a piece of cake for a 911. Are you taking your wife?

I am one of the weird folks that drive my 911 on roads trips all the time. My goal is to hit all the lower 48 states in my Porsche. I am at 42 states and Canada now. I have been at Freedom Park in San Diego right at the Mexican border. This summer, I will drive to Key West, FL. I have been to within 30 miles of the furthest east in the USA when I was in Maine. Been to Canada, never ever going into Mexico.

I have 170,000 miles on my 85 now, and likely 175,000 by the time I get back from Key West.

Take pictures, never be shy about meeting new friends, and above all, have fun!

Go for it unclebilly.
I've driven mine to the last two Werks Reunions. 1,800 , miles round trip.

...word to the wise.....check your coupler bushings before you go, and re-pack your rear wheel bearings.

A little late for that, he's on the road today. Like I said in the beginning, if the car has been maintained, he should be good to go.

You will be fine. These are extremely robust, reliable cars. I take at least two road trips every year of at least that distance in my '72 hot rod. As a matter of fact, this coming Monday, I'll be joining about a dozen like minded enthusiasts as the Pac West chapter heads from the Puget Sound area to Monterey for our annual R Gruppe Treffen. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the club so, yes, many of us have made this trip every year for 20 years. This year it's in Monterey, but it has been as far south as the Palm Desert. We always take the "scenic route", with this year's trip, for example, covering almost 1,500 miles just to get to Monterey. Every car on this trip will be a '73 or older car. It's been the rare year that we have had any car disabled with a mechanical problem. So, yeah, if the old turbo is in fine fettle, you should have nothing at all to worry about. Have fun!
