Great ratings.

Banning all guns allows for only the strong to survive:
-Women the young and the elderly would become helpless, especially against a group of males.
-As would the poor who are unable to afford gated communities, private bodyguards, or other security measures.
-Those without exclusive government/police patrols ties or immediate protection.

LOL, says the guy who makes emotional non-factual responses with zero data. But sure, you can start here: https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3238736

Not disputing the availability of info online, only the "doesn't happen in any other country" part. Regarding the Lankford paper, see above.

Banning some things like poverty and terror are just rhetorical bull****ting.

Abortion is an act. For the purposes of this discussion, if I had the leftist mindset and wanted to stop abortion I would try to outlaw the private ownership of knives.

I’ve pointed out numerous times that if you factor out these leftist run cities we are about Canadian in our crime levels.

If that's true, why ban full auto weapons? Why prevent private citizens from owning Stinger missiles? F15s? Suitcase nukes? You like to draw lines--where does that one go?

And, in that vein, why are we bothering NK about their nukes? It's not the weapon, it's the person, right?

Because the lethality of weapons matters. Even if you make someone mad or crazy enough to kill, they still need to find a way to do it. Removing the most effective ways lessens the carnage.

Wrong. The power of the purse resides with Congress under the constitution. Well, used to. Until the activist trump judges decided it all resides in the executive. (Only until a Democrat gets elected.)

The person bent on killing can't buy an AR... so they buy two 9mm's with a double stack and a shotgun with an extended magazine, load it with a very lethal round (00) and do the same job.

Better practice those moves. Remember, you gotta kill 9 and wound a dozen more in 30 seconds to match the body count of an amateur using an AR15. Good luck!

Hate to break it to you, but we're at 1984 already. Allowing us to have guns is just a sop to give us the illusion that we have power and control over the government. We don't. So we use those guns on each other.

Terry,
I understand what you're saying and it's a noble thought. But we talk about mass shootings like it's the leading cause of deaths as a result of gun violence in this country when it's simply not. It's terrible when someone goes out and kills 30 people at one time... but is it more terrible than 30 people being killed in the same weekend in different cities in different incidents? It's certainly more shocking and I get that. But to think we're somehow going to be "safer" as a result of banning a certain type of weapon just isn't realistic.

The title of this thread is "Recent mass shootings what's going on?" I'm responding to that. I'm not proposing to end all human violence for all eternity, or end killings with fists, bottles, frozen legs of lamb, or any of the other silliness you guys have suggested. Not looking to have everyone join hands and sing kumbaya. Just answering the question, which should have been posted in PARF, for obvious reasons.

At least, by posting it here, we had fewer of the PARF village idiots posting memes and cartoons, talking about their latest gay sex slur, posting peoples' private info here, making death threats, or posting under three different aliases.

We get it corgi, It's all too much logic to handle. Ya tilt

cabmandone 08-05-2019 03:07 PM

"Buckshot comes in various sizes. Nominal pellet diameter ranges from .24 caliber for No. 4 buck to .38 caliber for four-ought buck. The most popular buckshot is 00 buck, which has a nominal pellet diameter of .33 caliber. The number of pellets per shell is governed by their size and their weight. Generally, shotshell ammunition has a payload of between 3⁄4 and 1 1⁄2 ounces. It takes about eight 00-buck pellets to make up a 3⁄4-ounce load. The more the payload weighs, the more recoil you'll experience. Recoil can also be increase with velocity. Most buckshot loads vary in velocity between 1,100 and 1,600 fps."

.33 x 8 @ 1100 to 1600 fps.. Figure it out. It's more lethal in a close quarters situation than a single bullet and the shooter would have to fire about 8 times to equal what would be shot per trigger pull through a semi automatic shotgun. An AR is not the most effective tool.

madcorgi 08-05-2019 04:09 PM

Doesn't matter. It's the consensus favorite.

Uh, no. I merely pointed to evidence which suggests your statement that other countries drug their young citizens as frequently as we do is incorrect.

I’m prepared to accept that the problem is multi-faceted. It seems that many people are not.
