For about $11 you can get an OBD II Bluetooth unit which connects to your phone. And there is free software (ODB Check/Torque) which will data log, calculate HP, acceleration, etc.

Funny, I just fired up the old XP laptop and am posting from it now. Amazed how fast and functional it is. It has been a while.

I'm not a fan of Win10's bedside manners but you may want to upgrade in the end just for convenience...
Thanks for the input (from everyone else, too).

I see no compelling reason/s to move from what I've got. I've had it less than 5 years IIRC, I keep it clean with these free programs I mentioned, it runs well (I don't ask much of it), I've been saving lists, links, photos, and articles on it like there's no tomorrow since I've had it, and it's still nowhere near capacity:

My 8 year old laptop ran like a dog on Win 7. The Win 10 install must have cleaned things up since it ran much better after.

I'm no system admin type regedit wielding card carrying member and definitely not smarter than the hackers.

Mine slowed way down.......... I suspect the years of updates buried it. So slow it is unusable and yeah the browser thing............

Even chrome is glacial. The machine is ancient and redundant so I retired it.

My W7 machine, I turned off up dates several years ago......... I run cleaner and norton on it. Still runs like a champ.

Have a W10 machine for a couple years now, configured for enterprise ("pro")?............ none of the advertising BS. I Run ad block and flash block in chrome......... Sophos for security (which I hate).

I did lose scan functionality for my networked printers (cheap HP 4500s)

Machine runs fine, though I suspect it is rating me out to the cloud with every key stroke.

Tough to use the internet AND be anonymous. and Free internet apps, (mail, browsers ect) are not really "free".

Gretch, download the free Avast browser. It has its own adblock and I can not believe how well it works. Even watched Youtube videos last night.

I went to see my CPA yesterday. He was on Win7. He uses Quickbooks as do I. I just bring my data file and I hand him that. He had to upgrade to Win10. He said it was painless for him and the other CPA in the office next door. He just has to learn the different layout, but it is not a big change.

I am still using Win 7 (on a Gateway desktop)without any issues. I think I read somewhere that 7 is based on the XP kernel which would explain why it is so stable! My wife uses a laptop with Win 10 and she always seems to be having issues with it! I will most likely keep on using 7 until it's last breath and the take a look at all the OS available at that time. Win 10 will be my absolute last choice!

When new OS Systems go online. Is it to much to ask to leave common buttons in the same area?

I guess I'll be using Windows 7 until one of us dies.

Compromised PCs can be used by hackers to target other PCs even those which have been fully updated.

Update.

Have WIN10 on a laptop, came installed, and it's a chore to go through and turn off all the useless jumping unicorn and spying stuff that's installed. Spent serious time unchecking all the default privacy settings, and installing Norton, Spybot, CCleaner, Office, etc. but it mostly works. There is a way to get around the defaults and install IE for browser if you want that. WIN 8 was a disaster. My workstation purrs along on WIN7 and it be it's a much more stable, less bells and whistles, spying type of platform. I may bite the bullet and install 10, but not in the near future.

Windows 10 is better than Windows 7 in every possible way.

No, they have to make "improvements". THe old button was in the wrong place. The new button is much better (not sure who it's better for).

I feel like that statement is either incorrect or a major bit of hyperbole.

Clearly it's not better in every way since so many folks have had issues and so many folks have mentioned having to turn off lots of "features" to maintain privacy and/or debloat.

I'm running Win 7. I rarely reboot it. It runs 24x7. I purchased this PC in 2011.

I'm going to stick with Win 7. My next upgrade will be to a 27" iMac. It's going to be expensive, but should last as long as my current PC or longer barring any major changes in computing.

Not trying to steer towards a mac/Win issue, but at my work we have about 10 people supporting Windows, and one guy supporting Mac (from an engineering standpoint, not field techs). Same work. Make of that what you will.

I work on windows exclusively as sysadmin/packager/remote deployment tools admin, and at home I have Macs exclusively because I don't wanna work on my own machines too..

Win10 isn't bad per se (BTW re: an above post, cccleaner is considered malware in our environment), what's terrible is MS' new model of shoving upgrades down your throat, the terrible quality of said upgrades and patches, the fact that monthly upgrades all roll up into one another now so there is no avoiding anything, and the spying/reporting software they constantly push to you. Unless you are really tech savvy it's hard to avoid the above. Even at the enterprise level you can only delay patching for a short time. They've taken businesses down with their poor QA many many times... We've had to hold patching countless times too and wait for the fix to the fix... Not pretty !

Yep, I like how they rotated the battery icon 90 degrees.......That was way overdue...I hope the guy that thought of that got a big bonus....
