Seriously, though, that's great - we can agree to disagree. I'm fine with that. I would just really like to keep it civil. You are a bright guy and I enjoy reading your posts, especially on PARF (where you are consistently one of the better informed contributors) even if I might disagree with some of it.

My first real job out of law school was doing child sexual abuse cases. The conundrum you note was enough to drive a poor man insane. If you doubted the victim and they were a victim, you should roast, if you convicted the man and it was coached you roast. I couldn't stomach it. It requires a certain mindset that is necessary but that which I lacked.

Matt has made a longer post on his Facebook page. Long and short of it, I think his problems stemmed from a fairly crazy, jealous ex-girlfriend who was determined to **** up his life.

He’s been through a lot of crap since he retired from racing and hasn’t handled it at all well but I don’t think this latest incident is any reflection on him. He’s an intensely private person, so to come out with a lengthy post as he has done was probably very difficult for him. I can’t imagine what it must’ve been like for him to live the last couple years under this cloud. I do remember that there was a gag order from the court, which didn’t do him any favors, either.

Final postscript to this whole mess… Mat gets to the root cause of it:

“When I was accused of this rubbish a few years ago, my friends said "this is a money grab". For someone who has been so generous with his time and money I didn't want to believe it. Well it seemed for a while it wasn't about money as no claim had been made until right in the middle of my trial in June. As if this person and her cohorts hadn't caused enough damage already, I got home from my trial one day and there was a property claim served on me in the mail. A 50/50 claim. This woman wanted millions of dollars.
During my trial she was actually setting up her property claim with some of her answers. She was adamant to get what she had to say entered into evidence in the criminal court, we guess so she could use it in her claim in the family court. It was a complete circus. She was supposed to be there to give evidence to have me locked up but there was a not so perfectly created ulterior motive and she was seen straight through. Of course my legal team and I were the only ones in the courtroom that knew of the millions she was trying to steal so we weren't surprised by more of her lies in the witness box.
After the second time in the family court and the evidence started to come to light, her lawyers dumped her and the court orders were stamped and sealed. Dismissed! Just lies on top of more lies and another court system saw straight through them. What has absolutely amazed me through all of this, is these people take an oath (apparently that means something) and when they have been proven to be lying, just shot down with evidence after evidence heaped up to prove they are lying under this oath, there are no repercussions for them. When it's all over those liars walk without any worries from the law, whilst you try and pick your life up.
Be very very careful of dodgy people. Many of them are good talkers and are living the good life on other people's money, whilst they are leaving families devastated in their wake.

Happy to hear the case is resolved but disgusted that this was a personal vendetta for someone to try and cash in. He's 100% right. The responsible person should be charged for lying under oath and should be forced to pay all of his defense costs at a minimum.
