I went to Home Depot today. Maybe 1 in 10 customers was wearing a mask, same for staff, that includes the older people.. No sanitizing of anything was apparent. It was almost as crowded as a normal day.
Had to go as I needed something not available in the smaller hardware stores, but I think I’ll do my best to avoid HD for awhile. It felt a little creepy.

In my city only 100 customers were allowed in HD/Lowes/WM/Sam's at a time. It was raised to 150 yesterday.

Interesting. The HD here closes at 6 every day so they can clean and disinfect everything. I would say 75%+ have masks. Whole Foods pretty much 100%.

I have been going to HD a lot during the past two weeks-- needed to set up a home office space. I have been buying items on-line and doing curbside pick up for most trips. I have also been in a couple of local stores during this period, and everyone is wearing masks. After 4/22 they won't let you in without one. They seem to have a system for counting people... but I have have not been affected as I have been going from 7-9 am. I have also gone to my local ACE, which is a fantastic store (been going to the same one since '91). No restrictions in terms of numbers of people, but I have been going at odd times just to make sure I don't have to stand in line. Went today at a peak time and it was jammed. Everyone was wearing face coverings (some were more diligent, some were kind of sloppy). In both HD and my local Ace, my experience has been that most folks seem to be following social distance guidelines with pretty good consistency. But I can see how some/many could begin to relax a little in coming weeks-- human nature. We will all have to work on avoiding getting too relaxed.

I was in Menards a week ago. The number of people wearing masks was minimal. I saw a worker standing with two other people (none wearing masks) discussing an item. I have no real problem with it but they should be trying to adhere to social distancing. When I walked in the store, there was a young guy spraying sanitizer on the carts and wiping them down. He was letting customers know the ones in front of him had already been cleaned. That was kind of nice. Went to Lowes after leaving Menards.. Some workers had on masks, most that I saw did not.
I'll be going back to Menards today so it'll be interesting to see if anything has changed much.

Masks are still not widely available here...local efforts are trying, but the demand sucks them up immediately. I've only been in grocery stores a few times....folks are maintaining "space"...about 50% have masks on, some home made.
I don't have one....at least my mom does. Last edited by KFC911; 04-26-2020 at 03:46 AM.. |

I was at the local Mennonite Feed Store yesterday and they have really stepped up their game in terms of toilet paper, home brewed hand goop and sprays. The owner is a friend of mine and gave me a 1% discount ![]() I wish more people understood that. I keep seeing folks driving solo in their cars with their masks on.

I saw someone doing that the other day. I wanted to yell out my window "The ghost in the passenger seat says thank you!"

Solo mask in car is probably a good thing; make it part of your daily gear and have wearing one at all times when you leave the house become second nature. By the looks of things right now, we're gonna be wearing masks for awhile.

I have one N95 that I’ve been using for 4 weeks. I don’t wear it while driving, I’m sure it collects moisture from my breath for one thing, plus they take a little effort to breath through. It’s not bad for an hour or so, but I feel sorry for people who have to wear one all day. That would be tiring.

I've got one of those N95's that I found on the bathroom floor at Home Depot. I slapped it on my arm a coupla times.
Works good. |

I laid in a bunch of 3M respirators early on, and had a box of disposable N95 masks already. So far, I’ve worn a N95 mask only a few times, when grocery shopping. I carry a cloth mask with my wallet, pop it on when entering other places. Once I tried wearing the cloth mask over the N95 as an experiment, it was unpleasant. Haven’t worn the respirators, kept just one per family member and gave the rest to HCW I know.
