Well then I guess this will be another real world test case. If locals start collapsing in the streets from the ChiCom Virus within the next 4 days (August 11 +14 days), we'll know that 460,000+ maskless scofflaws descending on a small town is not advisable. But so far, so good - no unmanageable outbreak How is this possible from a gathering of 1/2 million people flaunting the government 'rules'? I suspect the 99.97% survival rate will not change

I highly doubt that. It's a crowd of middle aged and older couples who probably have sex once a month, if not less. It's not exactly the Coachella festival. That was a high-risk Covid crowd if I've ever seen one, I hope that somehow a lot of them did not get it.

As far as "proving it," our super competent government let that cat out of the bag months ago. There is no meaningful contact tracing in the U.S. Lastly, the survival rate is not 99% among people this age...maybe the Coachella crowd.

Couples? Yes, there are some who go as couples, but the majority of men go there to get away from their wives. You know, because they only do it once a month...

Perhaps those at Sturgis employed the most effective weapon against spreading the virus--BLM signs. According to the news reports I have read the past several months, not "one" of the riots or "protests" anywhere contributed to the spread of the virus, despite the lax usage of masks, and utter lack of social distancing.

I live in a tourist town. We're packed. Arches National Park gets over 1,500,000 visitors every year. Canyonlands around 750,000. Makes Sturgis small potatoes. Can't stop the masses from coming. This town has had very few COVID-19 cases. Across the border in Colorado, the hysteria is ginned up constantly by the governor. Tell me this isn't political. And when I do hear "So & so tested positive for Corona", then you never hear anything else. I'm sure it's a real virus, but the measures seem excessive.

And back in March when everything was getting locked down in various states suddenly there were a bunch of out-of-staters here hiding and camping along the river and in the desert. Back then I thought they would cause problems, but nothing ever came of it.

Transmission of SARS-CoV-2 during and after a college spring break trip (March 14–19) led to 64 cases, including 60 among 183 vacation travelers, one among 13 household contacts, and three among 35 community contacts. Prompt epidemiologic investigation, with effective contact tracing and cooperation between a university and a public health department, contributed to outbreak control.

64 new cases from tens of thousands crowding the beaches at Spring Break, and the hundreds of thousands exposed when they returned home is only a "massive outbreak" to those who desperately want to see one.

Three months after the fact, we are very much aware of the size. It melted.

no, without full & perfectly accurate contact tracing you cannot be aware of the 'size'

There were no abnormally high "flare-ups" in incident rates in any location to which these kids returned. None. In spite of the shrill doom and gloom predictions from the media and certain politicians. This was all we heard about during Spring Break - the pending disasters when these kids returned home. We never heard another word after Spring Break, when none of those massive outbreaks materialized. All of the "Chicken Littles" just quietly slinked away, hoping no one would notice.

I realize you want no restrictions on your freedom to infect

Another stupid, baseless assumption on your part. Seems to be one of your fortes'.

I am very diligent about wearing my mask in public.

The radio in Minneapolis today says 15 confirmed new cases from people who attended Sturgis w one hospitalized. That number will almost certainly go up.

15 new cases in a population of 5.64 million people. And yes, I would expect that to go up.

Minnesota has had a total of over 68,000 cases, with over 800 new reported today, with only 8 new deaths. So, let's try to keep these numbers in perspective. Even if the "Sturgis" numbers go up, substantially, like an order of magnitude or two substantially, they still do not represent any sort of a crisis by anyone's definition. Certainly not any kind of an "I told you so" moment, "proving" everyone's fears regarding Sturgis.

Who all weren’t sick and were totally surprised they tested positive. But good job saving the world!
