Buy a couple 7 rd. mags for certain states with limits.
Research state laws, some states require you to notify police of any firearms immediately when stopped, some if you are conceal carrying. My suburban has a drink holder tray in the center console that pops out. Most of the time my gun is tucked away here and accessible fast. I can’t imagine a cop pulling this tray out. I have read some stories about Maryland HP being pretty aggressive during stops looking for firearms. My standard reply to every cop is no gun in car unless it is on my person.

There are some pretty notorious stories out of the northeast about how they treat gun owners.
I seem to recall a few convictions got overturned in New Jersey because state police were directing vehicles off the interstate for a "safety inspection". Thing is, they were only picking off vehicles with out of state plates going northbound in the fall that looked like they might be headed to Maine for some hunting. They'd direct the vehicle into a school parking lot for the "safety inspection" where some probably cause would be generated for a vehicle search. Of course they would turn up unloaded hunting rifles in locked cases in accordance with federal safe passage laws. These would be ignored and the vehicle occupants would be arrested on the spot and charged with a felony for taking a gun onto school grounds. In another NJ case, a history professor was given something like 30 years for having an antique flintlock pistol in his vehicle (not even legally considered a firearm) when he volunteered the information during a traffic stop. I hear Maryland isn't much better.

I was thinking that, but fortunately, I don't have a reason to ever drive through those states. For the folks that do, keep things separate and try to comply with the law as much as possible and don't act funny. I wouldn't lie if asked a direct question, but I also wouldn't volunteer any information that wasn't specifically asked.

I usually carry in my center console. No cop is going to legally get into my car anyway, so I'm not worried about them finding a gun.

Here is how I have HEARD it is done. This is all rumor and innuendo, since the only time I carry a pistol is to and from the range and I make sure I follow every scintilla of the laws of the Great State of Maryland. With out of state plates, don't speed, drive like a jackolope or imbibe.
Look box or trigger lock. Weapon is unloaded. For your Yukon, I would put the pistol in a void with a cover or in the jack compartment. Toyota SAYS there is a void with a cover in my Land Cruiser, and that the jack compartment is spacious, I've just never looked. Ammo, magazines store in another part of you car, or in your luggage. I don't plan on doing an OK Corral while underway so this method MAY work IF i ever decide to transport my pistol anywhere else but t/f the range. Nice that I have a range on the farm ![]() Seriously, you'll have no issues.

Seahawk if you have a business and make regular deposits at the bank (as opposed to wire transfers from vendors direct to bank) you can get an unrestricted permit.

I have looked into it. It would be a bit of a stretch, but if I move some things around...

Those guys were dicks . They kept making little wise cracks about hippies, and how awful GD music was . So, from that day forward, GD stickers were reserved for tool boxes, and off road vehicles . Thanks, OBX trip is always the highlight of my year . Its the only time I take off .

If I transported long guns through states like Maryland in a Yukon (any SUV), I would get one of these portable gun safes and bolt it to the floor in the back, then lock the key in the glove box:
https://www.secureitgunstorage.com/hidden-gun-safes/fast-box/ These are nice for a truck: https://decked.com/blogs/decked/truck-gun-storage

Typical PPOT over analysis - just research, understand, and follow local law. Pretty damn simple.
We are all, as individuals, beholden to local law. None of us, as individuals, have the time or resources to change those local laws. We would die trying. And it's not a hill I'm willing to die on. There are those with a lot more time, and a lot more resources, fighting for us. Support them in their efforts. In the meantime, obey all local laws. Unless you have a lot of time on your hands. And money.

That is great and all Mr Higgins, but the NRA abandoned California some time ago. I still give them money, but I only get a magazine subscription for it.

The NRA just recently won a victory in court regarding California's magazine capacity restrictions. They are fighting California's "may issue" (discretionary issue) concealed carry permits as well. It's a long road, but they will win that one as well.
