Curious Who Uses Walmart / Super Tech Oil?

Curious on if any of you use the Walmart branded oil (Super Tech), blended / distributed by Warren Oil Co.

I've been using it recently on an old engine that had been sitting for a while just to get a few hundred miles before a 2nd and 3rd oil change rather than the more pricey stuff.

I use it on my Mustang. Considering that it takes 8 quarts, I drive it 1,000 miles a year, and I have to change the oil every year, it makes sense to use a relatively inexpensive oil.

I change oil every 5k

I use it in my truck. Still use Mobil 1 in the Cayman.

It has been over 20 years for me. I just hate the place. I am really afraid someone will take my picture and post it on the WalMartians web site!

My two cars are both 1980s cars with flat tappets. I use Brad Penn in both, only now it has a new name. 372,000 on the El Camino and 176,000 on the 911.

I am not using any Wal-mark oil in my car. YMMV.

I use their oil for diesel engines in my little, old tractor. I change the oil & filter pretty frequently since the hour meter doesn't work. I use RPM Delo in my larger tractor. When I had my truck, I used synthetic in it. I don't think I would have ever considered using Super Tech in the truck, although it may be good oil.

Super Tech every oil change since I bought it in '05 with 90K miles.

I buy a 5 quart jug of 0/20 Mobil 1 at Walmart for about $25. I saw Costco now has Kirkland synthetic motor oil...curious who makes that for them. I like Walmart...buy a lot of groceries there too.

I use Amazon Basics Synthetic which is also Warren oil. I use it in my Ford F250 and in the Air Cooled Generators I support.

I use the walmart sythetic in gasoline generators, air cooled gas single and twins, and gas domestic trucks. I use the rotella t6 in all diesel applications.


Just change it regularly....

I use the TDH and hydraulic oil in some old farm equipment. It seems to leak no different than the more expensive stuff...

I once went to look at a motorcycle for sale in the San Pedro area of Los Angeles. This is where the major refineries are located and the seller was an engineer at one of the major refineries.

I asked him what brand of oil he used and he said, “whatever is on sale.” He then showed me how to read an oil bottle or container. He pointed to the front and said, “all of this is irrelevant...” while pointing to words like, “turbo approved” and “high mileage...”

He also said that the brand was irrelevant. He then pointed to the “donut” with the viscosity and letter rating and said that was the only thing that mattered. SG, SH, SM, etc... Everything else was BS, according to this engineer from the refinery. I did not wind up buying his bike, which was probably a mistake since he took care of his stuff like few people I’ve ever seen.

Take that for what you will.

The rating is the floor, presumably the 'higher end' oil exceed the standard.

Or it's all a scam.

I'm cheap but I don't skimp on oil. Maybe on my son's car. Not on mine.

And the small savings on my single cylinder air cooled stuff isn't worth the effort.

Rating index is important for ID'ing the "minimum" quality standards, as mentioned above. There are many different variables and some pros/cons within them. Basically, the type and quality of the base oils + the type/quality of the add-pack/viscosity modifiers, etc. Another thing to look for is additional car manufacturer ratings. These are typically more strict (BMW LL-X, MB 229.X, etc.). If a particular oil meets several of those as well, then it's probably a safe bet regardless of the brand. Though, some of those 3rd-party ratings are application specific (diesel engines, etc.), and there is a big push towards fuel economy these days. So, "higher" ratings don't necessarily mean "better", and it's good to know what's what.

On large engines, the type and brand and additive package can make a big difference. We switched from a very good Shell Product to a Phillips 66 product and were finally able to get 1000 hours between oil changes. It also burned less oil and prevented cylinder silica buildup. At $8/gallon, each oil change is about $1,200.

Yep, $1,200 in oil every 6 weeks. And $1,600 in spark plugs...The oil filters are cheap at $35 each...about $25,000 per year...per engine.

What type of engine/application is that? I did not realize that anyone made gasoline or spark engines that large(?)
