Ha! Freedom, great jobs, and low cost of living are a great start.

And the weather, which for the most part is actually the same. Hot as hell (or balmorhea) in a lot of places in the summer and cold in the winter but no snow in the mountains to ski on.
Lots of open space even still, but always crowded now in the cities. |

? I'm not a native, and I'm not one of those folks with the bumper sticker that says "not native, but I got here as fast as I could," but I'm unaware of dirty, and definitely haven't experienced rude. This is the South. We have southern hospitality.

If I had infinite money, or perhaps simply 10x what I have now I probably wouldnt live in texas. Being a pragmatist, I find it has a good balance of amenities, opportunities, and cost of living.
The craziness people stereotype to TX and the craziness people stereotype to Californians are different sides of the same stupid coin. However these are a few standard deviations from the center where most of us normal people reside.

Yep, there is a lot of road rage. Most aggressive drivers anywhere in the US. India was worse...far worse...

I have lived in the beat and worst in Texas.
Hereford which is in the Panhandle. It literally stunk. More cattle on hoof than any other county in the nation. A couple hour drive to find a lake to ski on. Though Taos Ski Valley was only about a 4 hour drive. Making $25,000 a year as a 23 year old in 1977 was too much to turn down. Tyler in the Piney Woods. A great place to live. A ton of old money. Rose capital of the US. Spectacular azalea displays. Fantastic water skiing and bass (largemouth and striper) fishing within spitting distance. |

i was this close to going to Texas Tech university. while visiting, i saw a guy i went to high school with. he was working (at a footlocker? cant remember). i said hi, and the girl he was standing with said, "you know him?" he looked at me and said, "no".
the girl i was with, said i would have to get used to that..hhaha..we went out to lunch right after that and the host gave everyone at the table a menu, except me. my friend Julie gave the hostess a rash of ****. no thanks. i didnt go to texas tech. to be clear, i was in Lubbock last year and it was delightful. no issues. people were cool.

Nonononono. You my friend obviously need to spend more time in Texas. Or survey the crowd at a UT game.

Our dogs LOVE love love cicadas. They are like candy for dogs. Our male goes out constantly all summer on patrol looking for them as the emerge and they are young and tender. He likes them old and dead just as much.
It is the sound of summer to hear cicadas singing their song.
