Dueller

Hey, I am trying to learn more about our departed friend, DOTTORE (not Dueller). He gave me his father’s typewriter and mentioned his dad was a writer. I’m trying to find out more about that, and would thus appreciate some info about Mark like last name, etc. Please PM me if you know. Thanks!

Sorry to hear he passed a way. Hadn't seen him on the board in a long time.
Does anyone know what happened?

I always enjoyed Dottore's posts. He was local to me but we never met.

Dueller died of complications related to a stroke several years ago, now. He was about two thirds of the way through serializing a long and raucous (and completely irresponsible) story about how he got picked up for driving under the influence at Mardi Gras and spent the night in jail but beat the rap, when he went off line abruptly. The story included a former beauty queen, with whom he was apparently getting on quite well with, his dropped concealed carry handgun in front of the officers, and more alcohol than can be consumed legally.

He logged back in some time later and reported that he had a stroke and was pretty slow because of the rehab. He wound down his practice and still posted briefly from time to time when we found out he had finally passed away. I don't think we ever got the end of the Mardi Gras story.

It’s always tough to read about the passing of someone that was a long time poster on this board.

Crap. I knew he’d stopped posting here but didn’t know he’d passed. RIP Dueller.

Anyone have info on Dottore? Even just a full legal name and city?

Dottore rubbed a few people the wrong way because they thought he exaggerated his experiences. It turns out he was understated. He was even more impressive in real life than he let on here. Others know more than me, but I believe he was born in Germany but he spent most of his career working in English speaking companies. He was a full equity partner at Baker McKenzie when they were the largest international law firm in the world. He spent quite a bit of time in Singapore where he handled tax and finance issues for companies and individuals who need the tax shelters and corporate advantages that Singapore offers. He spent his last years in practice in Vancouver, I assume still servicing multinationals with business in the Pacific Rim. In real life a lawyer like that wouldn’t have acknowledged me on the elevator. On the board he was unfailingly polite and gracious. I surmise, but I don’t have any evidence, that he returned to Germany before passing away.

November 2020 stats for W Vancouver are: $2.86MM median house price and $3.998MM median list price. Vancouver has an empty home tax (1.25% of assessed value - owner does not occupy for more than 6 months of the year) that has put many previously unoccupied homes on the market. These homes are often in the $5MM+ range. Homes under $3MM sell easily. Homes over $4MM tend to languish.

Wow, I didn't realize that Dueller had passed, as well. He took a leave of this place. Something to do with his divorce/ex-wife. Then he bopped in every few months. But I didn't realize that he had passed.

Do you know his actual IRL name?
