Reminds me of the year Felipe Massa lost the championship on the last corner of the last lap of the last race...to Lewis, who passed Timo Glock (?) in the rain for P6, the last points paying position, for one point and the 2008 championship.

I suppose in the final analysis Red Bull was able to take a more aggressive strategy as they had no answer to Hamilton's pace. I figured Max would nail the start on the softs. Shows what I know.
Down to the last lap, made for TV excitement. Best Les |

It sets up the potential for a great season next year . New cars with different aero rules , different tires and many skilled drivers and teams . Also some driver changes both existing and new should rattle things up 😋 .

Toto seems to have some anger issues.
Horner complains/whines just as much but keeps his composure. RB earned the win risking extra pit stops with an aggressive strategy. At least it did not end under a safety car. |

Sort of bitter sweet for me. I won't say whom I wished to win, but it was Ham's race all evening. Goes to show you, just like several times at the Indy 500, it ain't over until the checkered.
I know why drivers race, but the disappointments are devastating unless you have no soul. That might be the closest thing you could say about Kimi. Man, he looked young. He'll be in some kind of car next year no matter what he says. IMO. Really looking forward to next year with the changes in more than one series. Should start out as a free-for-all. |

If that finish was in a movie it would be scoffed at as not believable.
What a finish. Hamilton and Mercedes positively deserve the manufacturer's championship. Hamilton drove a better race, but his unbelievable luck finally was used up and Max got a miracle heaping of luck.

Christan Horner, well played gamble on tire strategy
The worst that could have happend is second place, nothing to loose, when Toto saw Red Bull pit for red's he knew they lost. He was more angry with himself

Excellent entertainment to the last lap and good to finally have broken the monotonous Mercedes era.

I felt the first lap pass was somewhat unfair to Max, and the last safety car restart somewhat unfair to Hamilton, it evened out nicely... As Massi said " It' called a motor race Toto"... what a way to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.. Wow.
I can't help myself, I love watching angry toto and sad Hamilton (even though not Horner/Marko fan). |

I will admit I enjoyed watching Toto blow a gasket 😊. And I will say I am so glad it didn't end under a safety car . This is the top level of auto racing , every race should be decided by racing . I am really looking forward to next year .

I am looking forward to 2022.
In my dreams about 2022, clean racing and lack of controversy will be the main themes.

I love formula 1 both for the driver match ups and the technology.
I hate to see off track buffoonery decide the outcome of a race. A formula one race is flag to flag. Hamilton/Mercedes earned the victory and to give it to Max/Redbull just to see one last lap of racing is bullshyt. There was a crash at the end, oh well. Follow the rules, all of them and if the race ends under a safety car, so be it. Hamilton earned the victory and if the race ended under a safety car no one would have complained. This decision was as ridiculous as the Belgium (one lap) non-race adjudged to be 1/2 are race. There is a little justice/karma in Hamilton's loss. He got his first title when Timo Glock shyt the bed on the last corner of the last race. This time the stewards shyt the bed.

And as a result of that, Mercedes has filed a protest.

And lost on both counts.
But the FIA needs to spend the off-season cleaning up their own house. Start with track limits. Make them clearly defined, easy to understand, and applied to all tracks, manufacturers, and drivers fairly.

Mercedes has made noises that they may appeal it to a higher level, we will see if they make good on that claim.
On the one hand, it will be perceived as sour grapes by most people. On the other hand, they do have a legitimate point, I think. |
