That's interesting. My doctor told me I had to wait 3 months after my case of shingles cleared up to get the new vaccine and my case took 4 months to clear.

In either case I fully endorse everyone getting the two part vaccine...NOW

Woefully incomplete is pretty accurate as I had not posted the entirety of Merck’s Manual, The PDR and all the literature concerning herpes zoster and neuralgia.

I think Jeff took exception to my post because he felt slighted by a perceived trivialization of his experience. This thread is about shingles and the zoster vaccine. I do believe there is another thread pertaining specifically to Jeff’s (and other’s) personal experience. Which is precisely why I posted in this one.

Just returned from Walgreens .... 1st one done! I have BCBS (via Marketplace) with a high deductable, so I was expecting to pay cash. Would have been $199, but it was rounded off to 0.00 .

Thanks, CB. Who was the guy who always said "...and now for the rest of the story..."? Like KC noticed, somewhere along the line I seem to have picked up this new found passion for this thing known as "shingles". Not sure what piqued my interest...

My fear was that some might read that it "causes a rash" and think "meh... I don't need no steenking vaccine...". And then wind up winning the shingles lotto and, like me, finding themselves with a new "passion" for the disease. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. So, I'll be on my soap box for awhile, then get back to our regularly scheduled programming...

Jeff - sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well - no wonder i haven't seen you out and about lately.

I got my first shingles dose in December and the second dose in January. Both times I got a sore arm and some minor chills - but that's just my immune system telling me that it is doing its job.

Over the weekend I got my 2nd shingles vaccine, my wife got her first Covid vaccine. I figured we'd suffer together. Of course she had almost no symptoms, and I laid low for a day or so with chills. But I have the shingles vaccine out of the way now - unfortunately, I won't be allowed to get the Covid vaccine for several months - I'm too young and too healthy.

We got our first Shingrix shot earlier this year. Then we got both Covid shots.

Yesterday we finally got our second Shingrix shot.

For all of the previous vaccines, and almost every vaccine that I've ever had, I've only had a minor dull ache at the injection spot. But wow, I felt like crap last night, all night and this morning from the second Shingrix. I had a headache and body aches. I was surprised, but it beats the hell out of getting shingles.

I did end up having a 101.5º fever after getting a measels booster when I was in college. That's the only other reaction that I remember having to a vaccine, and I've had a bunch. I've been to Japan twice, Europe and S. America, so I've had a fair share of shots and vaccines.

The first Shingrix made my arm a bit sore initially, and red for several days. The second one, and both Covids ... no after effects whatsoever. Those are the only 4 vaccines I've had as an adult fwiw.

I got my first Shingles vax shot about 3 weeks ago. Unlike the Covid shot, which I had almost zero effect from, the shingles made me fairly ill for a couple of days and my arm felt like I'd been stabbed. That must be one potent brew.

I also know that the side effects were normal and I'm on my way to being inoculated. Worth it. The Covid one was as well, you don't want to roll the dice with that one.

Yeah, I got a little puny feeling from my two shingrix shots as well. Believe me, though, you don't want the alternative...

The first shot threw me on my arse. I had chills the first night. I felt a little off the second day then I was fine. I couldn't raise my arm for 2 days
The second shot I had no side effects

We got the shot about noon on Sun. I felt it Sun evening and throughout the night. I got up in the morning and took some tylenol and went back to bed. I felt much better when I got up. By the time I went to bed Mon night, I was feeling mildly rough again, but when I woke up on Tue, I was fine.

My wife didn't feel anything that she thought was an issue until she'd been up a few hours on Mon. She also felt fine on Tue.

This is for sure. I got the single shot version and then the two shot version completed some time ago. I haven't heard of any long term negative effects but I haven't googled it.

i hope my shot is effective. i am a skeptic.

i got the first shot, and then Covid beach-slapped the planet and shut down all hospitals to my puny needs. no problem. i actually forgot all about it. till very recently. i had a routine visit where she lectures me about my lifestyle. and she said. well, maybe we should do your second shot? she left for a bit to ask questions. she came back and jabbed me with #2. i thought i was starting over with #1. she said it is still effective despite the delay.

fingers crossed. shingles took my sister out.

My Wife had it 30 years ago and was in a fair amount of pain for a couple of months and luckily, no recurrence.
With medicare, blue cross Plan F and a drug suppliment, the first shot cost me $186 at my local CVS. I will, (not gladly) pay the $186 again to avoid this health risk.

How long was the delay? 12-18 months?

Ah, so a little over the range that they tell you, but not a ton. At least, we were told 2-6 months, but I suspect that's got a huge safety margin baked in. I think we were at 6 months.
