Yeah I was kind of thinking that the HP are gonna go in a mag and probably only ride along on rare occasions. Most of my carrying is done when I'm at my hunting property and I haven't fired a round at anything other than a few targets just to let my son shoot the 9.

But honestly 14.99 is a good enough price that I maybe should have grabbed two. I haven't fired a hollow through my 9 yet and it would be nice to see how they act.

Common wisdom says to not trust a gun/ammo combo for carry that you haven't run multiple magazines through without issues. I've seen some semi auto pistols turn into single shots when fed some types of hollow point or heavier-than-normal ammo.

That's kinda why I was thinking that second box would be nice. At least see if the gun likes the ammo. Thankfully I don't carry often because I spend a lot of time around home or at my hunting property. I've always been one who didn't like crowds so we don't go out to eat if the place is packed. I have absolutely no patience for waiting in line to eat out when I can make the food better in most cases at home. So I don't carry often, probably more when I'm at my hunting property than anywhere else.

Have I mentioned how much I love living in a small town in a rural setting?

Would appreciate any leads on .45 ACP. Best I can find is 2 bucks a round, plus bend over shipping.

Hard ball is fine as I have hollow points for carry and home defense.

Just sign up for the daily alerts from wikiarms, Aim Surplus and ammoseek. .45ACP is way, way less than $2/rd for target ammo.

And just like that... it's all gone. I told a friend about the 9mm ammo because I knew he was looking for some. He got there and it was all gone. A bit surprising since they had a 2 box limit (I think) on the personal defense ammo and they had a lot of that.

Scottsdale Gun Club had ammo on sale today, but with a one box per caliber limit for non-members. I got a box of S&B .45ACP for $25 and 9mm for $23. I don't need it, but in this environment I buy it when I can find it way below market.

and we wonder why there is a shortage for those who DO need it.

It's called hoarding and selfish.

Rick Lee 04-25-2021 05:11 PM

Buying one box of each caliber when on sale is hoarding? I bought 1500 rounds last month. Couldn't pass up the free shipping and no sales tax. How do I live with myself?

No relation to any of the posts so far but, be careful

^^
Yeah a good friend got scammed last month on some ammo. The price was "right" which gave it the appearance it was legit. He sent the money (paypal pay a friend... learned a lesson there) but never got the ammo. And because he used the pay a friend method, no paypal protection for the purchase.

Rick Lee 04-26-2021 06:28 AM

I'm pretty sure PayPal would deny any claim for gun-related purchases, no matter how the money was sent.

I just sign up for the email alerts and, when a good deal comes along, I pounce. The deals are all from nationally known retailers, so no risk in getting scammed. I'd worry more about porch pirates in case no signature is required.

I went to Vance Outdoors (Columbus, OH location) yesterday because I saw they had .30-06 in stock. Picked up 3 boxes of Hornaday for $40 per box. Really not crazy given its very nice hunting ammo They had an ample supply of all of the popular calibers for target ammo. Piles of .223, 9mm, and .40. I did pick up 2 boxes of Winchester .40 FMJ, $40 per box, so 80 cents a round.

I talked to the sales guy, and he said they have a steady supply of target ammo. But larger caliber rifle ammo, and tactical ammo in any caliber are harder to come by.

This all caused me to come home, and open all my ammo cans and get organized and inventory things. I think 2200 rounds of .22 is enough, and that 800 rounds of .40 will keep me for a while. Do I really need 750 rounds of 7.62x39? Me thinks no.

200 rnds, hard ball.....$.75 each. Delivered in two days. Screw Cabela's.

I'm getting frequent notices from AmmoDepot and AmmunitionSupply. Seems 9mm is getting more available. Still no primers though.

They actually had .380ACP in at a price less than any of the local LGS crooks. Still way too expensive but it is what it is.

Thanks for the tip J.B.

How much is that more available ammo costing? Yeah primers sightings are coming about as often as bigfoot sightings. Id10t clued me in on something though so I've changed my search. Since I haven't really done any loads for my 9 I don't have to worry about changing it just yet.

Unless you are loading for extreme accuracy, SPP and SRP are interchangeable for the most part. As usual, knock a proper percentage off and work your way back up if you are pushing limits already

So what do you guys think is enough is enough? A decent supply? How many rounds of each caliber?
