That's almost comical. They should have a couple guys out there with the little plastic shovels you get for beach toys for your kids.

Seriously: is there a way to offload some of the containers if the ship isn't in port? Make it lighter/float higher? That may take less time than digging the ship out.

I traversed the Suez back in the late 80's on the USS Dewey DDG-45. I remember seeing many burnt military tanks on one side of the canal. We had to anchor out a wait a couple of days in order to take our turn to go through.
