Anyone ever ship a rollbar?
I have a Cayman Rollbar that I'm trying to figure out how to safely ship it to the new owner. I've heard it would be good to get a box that they ship bicycles in as a starting point.
Anyone have any suggestions on where to go from there? UPS? FedEx Ground? Anyone have any idea how much it will cost to ship? I am sure the Pelican collective has answers... Thanks!

I've had three different bikes shipped to me in bike boxes. All were shipped by UPS

I have had a couple shipped to me.
3 were shipped on a pallet LTL and I picked up at the depot. I have shipped pallets across the country with Fed-Ex freight in the past and had great experiences, prices were good too. Way less than normal LTL places.

I've shipped roll bars sans box by just wrapping the bar itself, they are pretty robust and other than surface insults hard to really damage in any meaningful way

My local UPS store will box it and ship it. Not sure what they charge. Last time I was in there a guy was shipping a bicycle. He actually road it to the store.

Greyhound used to be the cheapest, bus terminal to bus terminal. I shipped some body parts that way, but 10+ years ago.
Z- if it's going to Byron or BAZ, I may be driving to Florida in the next few weeks.

looks like a couple bike boxes could be taped together to secure that. Bike boxes can be had for free, just call your local shop and ask when they are building (though new bikes are scarce these days). Ask for all the foam padding that bikes frames are protected with too! Probably need the foam from a half dozen or more bikes to adequately cover the rollbar.

You could cut it into small pieces and then it would fit in a normal box.

See if you can find a Cannondale dealer, their boxes are more stout than other boxes. That bar looks bigger than most bike boxes, so definitely oversized. I have used "Fastenal – Industrial Supplies, OEM Fasteners, Safety Products & More" https://www.fastenal.com
In the past with good results and must less $$$ than FedEx and ups.

You can get a custom box made for it, or make one yourself from double wall cardboard. I would suggest that you double up the wall thickness on the sides. Then you want to glue foam blocks in the box to keep the various parts where they need to be, then fill out the voids with peanuts. Once you have it packaged and weighed, it’s a simple matter to compare prices using the various shippers’s websites.

Greyhound used to be the cheapest. If you ship it Greyhound, make the box thick enough that when it’s laid down, it almost completely fills the depth of a Greyhound bus luggage bay. That way they can’t stack crap on top of it. Look at the maximum dimensions on their site to figure out big to size it.

I have shipped several roll bars. Truck Freight with Goship.com has been the easiest.
I wrap them in foam pipe insulation and then furniture foam corners at the ends, then wrap the whole thing in cardboard. Cost has been about $450 to most places in the USA. I have used Greyhound but in my area I can receive a Greyhound shipment about 45 minutes from my house, but to ship something out I have to drive to their terminal 2 hours away. Not worth it for me.

Freight and pick up at a local terminal. Strap to a pallet on it's side or propped up. Or FedEx ground if under 100 lbs.
I paid 175$ to get a drum of tractor fluid on a pallet from PA to Phoenix. I wouldn't pay any more than double that...
