Seems odd the little girl was going that fast unless she came down a hill. Great save!

This current weather pattern is interesting / frustrating as heck. I've watched one storm cell after another on radar evaporate literally before the rain can reach the ground.

Is anyone else having internet speed issues? Streaming services are constantly buffering and loading speeds are slow. Could it be heat related?

We've had many days over the last 2 months where we might get rain. Most of those days, I can go out at the right time of day, and look N, S, E, and W and see rain coming out of clouds. Not at my house. But in every direction around me. LOL.

Per the Internet, the avg rain for my area for July is 4", and last month we got 0.45". June was a little better. The June avg is 5" and we got 1.75".

Usually starting in April/May we have to mow once a week, and I think that usually lasts through Oct/Nov. We haven't mowed since Feb or maybe early Mar this year because we've had so little rain that nothing is growing.

Heat can cause problems for network equipment, but the equipment is usually in rooms that are heavily air conditioned. I wouldn't expect hot weather to have much of an impact on capacity of the connectivity which is almost all fiber.

It's more likely capacity (more people streaming more stuff on a shared network getting congested) related.

Hardly a hero. That is what any dad is supposed to do. It is his job to protect his kids from injury. Good reactions from the dad, he needs to teach his daughter how to use the brakes on the bike.

The kid gets beaned but is OK. The pitcher breaks down. The beaned kid comforts the pitcher. Cool kid.

Tactical bra

Huh...

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/why-the-army-is-designing-a-tactical-bra-for-female-soldiers/ar-AA10jJgQ

An "Army Tactical Brassiere," designed to give female soldiers enhanced protection and performance, is currently being tested at the Army's Combat Capabilities Development Command Soldier Center (DEVCOM). A prototype team expects to present an initial evaluation of the product to the Army Uniform Board this fall, reported Army Times.

Beach Sweep

This morning my grand daughter and I rowed across the river to a beach which tends to collect debris, courtesy of prevailing winds and people who DGAF. The haul included bottles, disposable lighters, shotgun shells and wads, a propane cylinder, a pair of splash pants, a kit bag, two backpacks and an 8x8 tent. About 50 to 60 lbs in all.
As we approached the beach, my grand daughter was excited to see some young coyotes playing on the shore. From the tracks, I would say they had been having a lot of fun for a while.
The sweeps are a tradition which started 35 years old ago with my son and daughter.

Good on ya, Les. I don't imagine you've seen the commercials where a guy has a drag he hooks up behind his SUV and he runs around a beach collecting 'stuff'. He then bags it all up and puts in his car. Then watches as the sea turtles come on shore to lay their eggs in the sand.
Can you drive to the beach you collect stuff on?

That's an awfully big hole in the water to throw money into, but I suppose he has more than enough to fill it up.

Scott, the river is about 1/4 mile wide where we live. It would be a 15 mile drive, then a couple more miles on farm tracks and a walk through a corn field and a grove of bushes to get there. No one goes there, just us and the coyotes. The river gets wider below the bend and, as I mentioned, the prevailing winds collect the detritus.
It is an easy row in the little Skunk dingy.

Psilocybin and LSD is good for you....sorta

I guess we were ahead of the curve back in the 60's and Leary was on to something.

https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/0269881116675512?url_ver=Z39.88-2003&

Methods:
In this double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover trial, 29 patients with cancer-related anxiety and depression were randomly assigned and received treatment with single-dose psilocybin (0.3 mg/kg) or niacin, both in conjunction with psychotherapy. The primary outcomes were anxiety and depression assessed between groups prior to the crossover at 7 weeks.

Results:
Prior to the crossover, psilocybin produced immediate, substantial, and sustained improvements in anxiety and depression and led to decreases in cancer-related demoralization and hopelessness, improved spiritual wellbeing, and increased quality of life. At the 6.5-month follow-up, psilocybin was associated with enduring anxiolytic and anti-depressant effects (approximately 60–80% of participants continued with clinically significant reductions in depression or anxiety), sustained benefits in existential distress and quality of life, as well as improved attitudes towards death. The psilocybin-induced mystical experience mediated the therapeutic effect of psilocybin on anxiety and depression.

Conclusions:
In conjunction with psychotherapy, single moderate-dose psilocybin produced rapid, robust and enduring anxiolytic and anti-depressant effects in patients with cancer-related psychological distress.
