When the ill informed or deluded refuse to get vaccinated, they add to the pool of people where the virus can go and spread. Then there's the children under 12 and others that are more likely to get the virus as a result.

With all due respect, we're all part of the pool... vaccinated or not. No one is exempt. It's just that the vaccinated are less likely to get a severe case. They've shown that even the vaccinated can spread this f'ing Delta variant.

I was talking with my brother last weekend and they know several people who are vaccinated that still got the virus. My sister is the same. Both live in highly populated areas. No one is truly exempt which means we're all part of the pool.

Agree with you, especially since the Delta variant is predominant. That leaves vaccinated people to wear a mask indoors. Having been vaccinated does substantially decrease the odds of being infected, though. So that helps a lot.

I'd still get the vaccine even if its effectiveness is 0%. Being close to 99% able to avoid serious illness/death and to avoid overloading the hospitals is the real remaining essential value.

I don't think they're being ignored John. I think one that has killed as many as this virus has is being made a priority and for understandable reasons. We can argue numbers. We can argue the age group most affected. But ultimately you have to ask the question "would many of those dead now still be alive today if the virus didn't exist?" If the answer is yes, then we should be doing all we can to get rid of this virus. If that means telling people who take care of the elderly in a healthcare environment that they need to be vaccinated, then so be it.

My decision to get the vaccine ultimately boiled down to one simple thing. I could see the toll that not being around family was having on my parents. They chose to isolate. I saw my dad cry last Christmas as my wife and kids along with my brother and his wife stood in the garage door opening singing Christmas carols to my mom and dad (maybe we were just really bad singers). I was willing to do whatever it took to get them comfortable with being around family. I owed them that. If that meant taking a vaccine that wasn't approved, I was going to do it. I've since come to understand that the vaccine isn't as dangerous as many want to make it out to be.
