I never knew that acrylic would hold up to that much heat.
But he never held it wot for long...maybe that's why.

That video is the best. Consider all that is happening along with all the forces. Amazing that cars can run 200k or more miles. I like the image of the burning of the fuel - looks like it is happening all at one time. You can see the fire happen just before TDC.

The valves get close to the piston on the "overlap" stroke. Not much room to be off in valve timing on an interference motor.

We did something similar here at work, but used neutrons to "see" through the aluminum...

GM developed a single cylinder test engine that employed a camera lens in the cylinder head in the early 50's where they could adjust the stroke and then compression ratio and vary levels of octane fuel introduced. I'm not sure if the film is out there on the 'net, but I've seen it, very cool

Yeah. I'd have been worried about acrylic shards flying about.. Amazing video. Thanks.

My old small block 305 in the El Camino went 301,000 miles. The rings were pretty worn as were the valve guides so it was smoking more than I liked. The heads were never off of it until I pulled that engine out the vehicle. I only took off the heads because I was curious to see the innards. It ran just fine, just too smoky for me.

The video is just what my mind's eye figured happened in the there. I just can't image how the old F1 engines ran at 18,000 RPM.

I liked how the video just showed the build...instead of how some talk through the whole works.
He did a great job.

You should have used transparent aluminum!

Cool. Was it the video or was the fuel not atomized as much as I thought it would be? I thought it would be more of a fog or mist, but it actually looks like droplets.

I assume a real carburetor would do a better job of making a consistent fine mist. This is one advantage of fuel injection.

Cool video, to be sure, but I thought conversations about things like transparents were restricted to PARF.
