SF bay area. we got some RAIN!!!

i left the dog poo can open, and it filled up. that isnt tea. so gross.

we got blasted. some areas took in 7" in a 12-hour span.

flooding, and general "i forgot how to drive in rain". two semi-tractors blew over on a bridge and shut it down for hours. pandamonium. it was amazing to watch. my two local lakes that were running dry filled to capacity in an afternoon. one lake flooded out, and the public bathrooms went underwater. more flooded poo.

it was awesome. the creek behind my house looked like a raging river.

That’s a crappy situation! Close to 10 inches up here in the Sierra foothills.

That is a lot of rain. Looking at a lake that is all of a sudden flooded is always blows me away that all that water, billions of pounds of water just fell out of the sky. 8.33 pounds per gallon, times a zillion gallons.

You need it! However, getting it all at once is not really what CA's water system is designed for . . . here's hoping for a wet winter and big snowpack.

How's Shasta doing? Any benefit there?

How big of a bite does that take out of the drought? Much relief or did it all run off?

We also need snow in the Sierra Nevada mountains this winter. The run off provides a big percentage of municipal water. Collected from the confluence of many rivers running into the San Francisco Bay delta.... (and then stolen by LA via the peripheral canal which runs half the length of the state)

I know it may be too much rain at once but I am pulling for a wet, snowy winter...within reason.

They say not much of an impact on the drought as the 'bomb cyclone' and 'river' aren't reaching far enough east and inland. But it may be that there will be more of these storms in the next several months, and they may add up to reducing the drought a bit.

Finding a bucket of poop soup after a heavy rain is my least favourite thing....definitely reminds you to get that lid on after use lol.

Starting to rain in earnest in my part of L A… won’t compare with Nor Cal levels.

I haven't seen any reports of mud slides YET. They were worried about slides in the Santa Cruz mountains and in the burned areas of the Sierras. Like I heard a comedian say once, "California doesn't have weather, it has biblical plagues."

Downtown San Rafael yesterday. Thankfully I'm uphill... Still - that much rain, wow... As a former resident of Tampa, this came close to an average FL hurricane by my reckoning. The winds were really kicking for a few hours... In a few days, I've gotta crawl in the attic with the rat turds and patch one little roof leak... Ugh.

The melting Sierra snow will typically provide for about 30% of CA's water needs. This runoff is used to help replenish reservoirs and recharge groundwater aquifers in the Central Valley. Farmers in the Valley depend on this water source for irrigation, since there's no rainfall at all during the long dry summer months.

It's pretty unusual to get such a strong storm so early in the rainy season. An "atmospheric river" dumping this much water is more common in December thru March.

We're off to a good start with some much-needed rain here, with about 6" around the Monterey Bay since Thursday.

I crawled up the roof and cleared my gutters yesterday preparing for this large storm we are suppose to have today. I hear we are expecting an 1-1.5" Nope, nothing but a steady gentle rain fall for a few hours. I was hoping it rain cats and dogs so I gave all my workmen a day off to avoid rainy day traffic.
