A lot can happen "in the long run". We'll learn and be better for it.

Without something more than some guy (even if he should be reputable) proclaiming things, I need a bit more.

On only the most loosely related subject. When I was a kid, I loved "Project UFO" which was about Project Blue Book. I think it was a short series in the 70s that was kind of like an early X-files. I could have sworn that it was called Project Blue Book, but it seems like that was only a series a few years ago.

I also loved X-files, but towards the end it had lost its luster. I prefered the stories about weird stuff more than the never-ending conspiracy/cabal story line.

Absolutely.

However, comma, the Wheel of Aeronautic Misfortune is irresolute: A V-22 is a mess because it doesn't particularly do any thing well. Same with VTOL fighters.

All about SWP and Endurance.

What flew next to me in 1986 was not of this known, and I gained a lot of insight in future tours, design parameters in terms of performance.

I don't worry for a second, btw. If whatever wanted me gone, I was a gnat.

I have no problem believing that there has been, and for a long time, a covert US government program to collect wreckage from unidentified anomalous phenomena. And I would suspect that all items collected have a terrestrial origin. After all, how could anyone ever say that something was not from this planet? We discover new things all the time. That doesn't mean that something we don't recognize is from another world. Did it have a label on it, "Made on the 3rd planet from Alpha Centuri"?

There is sufficient evidence that the US government has kept technological secrets for many decades. I think many governments being successful in keeping those sorts of secrets is achievable and such occurring in the past is probably easily provable, if not a complete given.

But....and here's where the rubber meets the road.... if any single human laid eyes on something that was conclusive evidence of a extra terrestrial lifeform or intelligence, the discovery would be of such monumental significance to humanity that the secret simply could not be kept. Coming to grips with that sort of proof would shake any individual to the core. Imagine being that guy and keeping a lid on it. No measure of stigmata would keep you silent. And you could recount exactly what you saw - 1st hand, in detail. And finally, who would be able to silence you? Anyone you report to would demand to see the proof you saw, and they'd instantly be in the same boat. It is simply a secret that could not be kept.

So put me in the camp that believes the government has recovered a lot of weird and wild stuff, and that we don't know where it came from, but none of it can be said with certainty to be from another world.

There was a long time poster here that checked out a while back and his signature block said, "If time travel were ever to exist it already does." I think the same can be said of interstellar travel. No species has evolved to that point without an extinction event. I don't believe we'll get there either. And it may be a self-limiting thing. Perhaps the technological advancements necessary to achieve interstellar travel play a not-insignificant role in an intelligent species' extinction. And it's not like interstellar species can learn from the mistakes of others if they can't get there to learn.

UFOs not from another planet.
But from ancient technology that evolved here and was kept a secret.
Hundreds of thousands of books destroyed in dozens of libraries several hundred years ago.
Some books still remain but who has them?

Lol. I've seen some discussions about that, let me toss this at you.

For a while, we trained pigeons to be inside of cruise missiles and tap on screens so the missiles would home in on their intended target, in this case, ships on the ocean. So we used simple organic matter to control our 'dumb' craft.

So... maybe it's just easier to engineer some organic "pilot" that does a job pretty well/cheaply/efficiently than to hire a real human to sit inside the disposable missile.

There have been many weird and unusual aircraft from Area 51 seen and recorded, and they look like a UFO from some other planet. We all are familiar witht he SR-71 and how different it was from any other airplane then or now.

I truly hope the USAF has the new SR-72 in production as the many rumors say. I hope they have test aircraft that are next level and look extraterrestrial to the average observer. I want the USA to have a SR72 that can get into orbit, and do things we can't imagine as just taxpayers.

And as I said, I really hope to live long enough to learn there is other life, and more important, extraterrestrial intelligent life out there. I feel certain there is other life out there, but unfortunately so far away that any signal would be hundreds of light years away.

Don't feel bad, I vividly remember watching Project Blue Book.
I have always been very into SCI-FI and even went to the 1st Star-Trek convention in Jacksonville, Florida with Gene Roddenberry hosting it.
And, like others, I have been intrigued by the UFO phenomenon and have been to a few seminars, OK, 3 in 40 years.
Back to Project Blue Book, I looked forward to it every week, even though many times they found a legitimate explanation, but some episodes they clearly couldn't explain.
What is crazy is it appears that some places it was called Project UFO, but, like you, and others, I remember Blue Book.

could what has been kept from the public to this point meet your criteria of "proof"?

what is your definition of "extraordinary evidence"?

Any civilization that can travel interstellar distances must be super long lived, or more advanced than we can begin to fathom.

There are more stars in the skies than grains of sand on all of Earth, there can't be much special or unique about Earth.
Be careful what you wish for.

First, we know travel to the future is possible. It simply involves travelling at high speed relative to one's surroundings.

Also, bear in mind that the parameters of the travel may be very limiting, so one may only be able to send back limited information or to limited places, or only say very long distances and times, not send back short times.
