If your first scenario is correct we may never know what happened to this Sub. If it's stuck on the the Titanic wreckage we will know what happened.

Either way how much air do they have right now or have they already run out?

- This is why I'm praying they're on the surface.

I can certainly think of better ways to die.

Would you have rather tried to climb Mt. Everest, or be entombed deep in the ocean in total darkness.

I'll take being on top in the sunshine or weather.

That sub, it's like being in a pitch black sewer pipe. If they are still alive I'd imagine it's freezing cold and total darkness. All they did was climb in and hope for the best. Never really thinking something could go wrong. They relied on all the safety representations..

I feel worse for the innocent American tourist that was thrown over the cliff in Germany. She did nothing to deserve that.

Horrific! This POS will rot in a German jail for a very long time. If he's ever released the US should extradite him to face further federal charges (Civil rights violations).

Theres so many cheap shots to taken here, not least of which its rich people that could have been on their yacht, by the pool, with cucumber slices on their eyes, snap their fingers for goat cheese and a gourmet negroni and they chose this idiotic disrespectful grave tourism instead.

Main lesson i take is just because youve got money doesnt make you smarter than anyone else. Sometimes we equate wealth with competence and we shouldnt.

Still makes me feel bad that my instinct is to point out how stupid the entire thing is. Not easy to give it a pisitjve spin though.

I can’t believe that this thing doesn’t have some sort of ping or sonar(?) to locate it at all times. Just horrible.

The fact that the designers chose Starlink for communications AND navigation (text based in both cases) allows me to believe that it doesn't use any sort of standard locating beacon.

The whole thing is just weird. Maybe all of those submersibles are kind of like this, I don't know, I never took a deep dive into the hardware specifics.

Ping & sonar require power. There would have been a backup system for power but who knows? FWIW radio waves don't travel very far under water. Seahawk should be able to give us more insight.

Bumped into Titanic, dented sub hull. Comprised hull integrity, sub implodes.

At times like this those who choose to make "cheap shots" are the small-minded.

Let's take the high road here, I say.

Just heard an interview on TV with speculation the hull was compromised at around 10,500 feet.

Not sure who it was that said that or how they "knew" that was the depth.

Interesting take, though....

On their website, they claim to have a Health Monitoring System to monitor hull conditions...allowing enough time for the sub to resurface if a problem is detected.

The news is saying they entered the water with 72 hours of oxygen . If we assume the sub is intact they run out of oxygen sometime tomorrow . Has to be a horrible experience if they are still alive an conscious . I wish them the best .

How does the submersible find the titanic?

Imagine being blindfolded in an empty field at dark with a cross wind and try to make it to a gate 2 miles away…

Without some form of onboard sonar, how do they know which way to go?

They lost communication just under 2 hours after launch. At the rate of descent, they'd be about half way to Titanic when they lost comms. So I would think that the trouble started at a depth under 2000 meters.

That depth is still going to be 200 atms. So damage and crush is possible. (EDIT): Especially considering that lawsuit claims that the submersible's viewing window was only certified to 1300 meters.

But I'm really afraid that they just lost power. Even with a manual way to blow ballast and get somewhat near the surface, they wouldn't have a way to communicate and would ultimately run out of air. Communication might be limited to banging on the hull hoping for a sonar buoy to pick up the trail. I don't know what redundant power systems they had, but I would hope at least one redundant system.

Really sad situation. I think I'd prefer to be crushed.

I can’t imagine their horror if they’re still in tact. So many details. Food, water, bodily waste, dwindling O2, thoughts of loved ones, panic attacks, hopelessness setting in…just agony.

Thoughts and prayers for a miraculous turn around. There’s still time.

I see bankruptcy filing dead ahead ! If it's determined the sub imploded criminal charges should be initiated .
