Simple gadgets that are cheap.

Maybe I'm late to find this one...but it sure makes it easier on filling the mowers and other gas engines. (those that don't have clear plastic tanks)

First pic shows an ordinary funnel
The other pic shows the built in float that rises as the tank gets close to full.

No more overfilling and wasting gas.
Walmart..$3.95

Garage
Very cool, but I always thought the overflowing gas was meant to clean the engine off.

^^^ that helps.

I always fill the tank in the garage and if I over-flow, it smells of gas for a few days.

And it makes it more fun when you start it. All the wondering "Is it going to get me in a ball of flames."

Getting back to the funnel, that's one of those things that you say why didn't I think of that?
Pretty ingenious.

^^^ Yes it is...I was wondering if it was just me that hadn't seen it before.

With the newer regulated gas cans...maybe it's a dud. I have 3 of the old style cans and I'll never part with them.

That's pretty cool.
I stopped using funnels when I started getting "help" with the lawn mowing. I was the only one who bothered to wipe the funnel out and put it away after using it. My "helper" had no problem sticking the funnel, with the dust and dirt than accumulated on the wet funnel, back in the tank at the next fill-up. Never mind getting her to wipe the top of the tank off before taking the cap off. Or check the oil - ever.
I try to take care of all the refueling now, but sometimes someone "helps me out" when I'm not looking.

^^^ I wouldn't be surprised if over half the lawn mowers never get the oil checked...or changed.
Most just run them until there's a problem.

Amazon USA about $3.

Walmart USA about $9

Amazon Canada $18.

I will buy some rags and forego the funnel.

^^^ It was less than $4 at Walmart here in MI

I've used it a couple times when filling my JD 335, which takes 3.5 gals.
The fill neck on the tractor has a built in filter and it's impossible to see the gas level rising until it's right there at the top. Holding a 6 gal gas container to keep the flow slow is a nuisance.
With this funnel...I just pour as fast as possible, until I see the black float rise.

I'm going to MI in a few weeks. If it's in the store I will get one.

^^^ Just a heads-up.....the outside diameter of the funnel is 1.25 inches.
My Trac-Vac won't accept it. The JD lawn tractor fits great.

So the float stops the gas to keep from spilling on the tool. Cool. So you have a funnel full of gas that can't flow and you lift it up and fuel spills on the tool...

No....that's not the purpose.
As you fill the tank the float rises to show the level of the gas. When it rises...you quit pouring and the funnel empties out.
