Well getting interesting. Wollf calls Horner a yapping terrier.

All the increase in trash talk in F1 just cheapens the image of the sport IMHO, starting to feel a bit like WWF :(

I bet Liberty are all for it as its making the sport more appealing to the American market, or maybe I'm making a wrong assumption about the average infield car burning North American motorsport fan :D

Last race, Ferrari or McLaren, desperately want Ferrari to win but they'll probably snatch defeat from the jaws of victory

And every day further and further away from what made this series great.

WEC is now 6 to 24 hour sprint race series, and F1 is an endurance clown circus pretending to be environmental.

Captain Ahab Jr 12-06-2024 01:11 AM

Agree on F1 moving further away but wouldn't go as far as calling it an endurance clown circus

Worked in F1 for 23yrs or 427 races now, a year in F1 is like dog years or 3-4yrs of working on road cars

Really feeling the relentless, super fast pace, long hours and too many long haul flights this year, especially right now as I'm on day 41 without a day off of a work week I started back in Oct

Pretty much, fully decided by end of next year or latest, beginning of 2026 season, I'll be done with F1, time to leave, don't want to be that slow, old guy that should have retired years ago

Old saying goes.....

It's hard to get into F1 but much harder to leave

rfuerst911sc 12-06-2024 02:48 AM

Just speaking for myself I get no joy from the bickering . Toto/Horner/Russell/Max are payed VERY well to bring their best to the track . The circus tent sideshow of acting like children and name calling and finger pointing adds nothing for me .

I expect a certain level of professional conduct at what is supposed to be the top level of racing . Can you get frustrated or angry and lash out ? Sure . But then let it go and move on . As a fan I actually enjoy watching a IMSA/WEC/Indycar race more than a F1 race .

I am probably in the minority in that feeling and that's OK. The last straw for me was how the petty behind the scenes BS acted towards Andretti Global entry and specifically Michael Andretti . That proved to me the " good Ole rich boy club " is more important than actual competition .

rfuerst911sc 12-06-2024 03:39 AM

Leclerc hit with 10 place grid penalty for having to change out battery pack . Ouch ! That really hurts Ferraris effort to win the constructors championship .

Not wrong, but I also think VER is equally right about Russell's shenanigans and backstabbing with the stewards. Let's not forget Russell was not on a push lap, he was on a warmup lap and it was on him also to notice the other car... (hence only 1 place drop) - wasn't a qually lap, it was a tire prep lap.

That guy (Russell) just rubs me the wrong way, always seems so damn desperate for popularity and a clean goody 2 shoes image, but he is just as much of a %$#% as most of those guys on the grid most likely.

herr_oberst 12-06-2024 11:28 AM

Any credibility that Russell had is gone as far as I'm concerned. I wanted to like him when he stepped up to Merc. Instead, he just runs his mouth.

Georgie - 3 F1 race wins.
Max - 4 F1 driver titles.

herr_oberst 12-07-2024 07:18 AM

Hamilton 'on pole' for his last ride in a Merc.

^^^ Haha good one . How about that save Max pulled off in the final turn !!! I think it may be the save of the year at very high speed . Congrats to McLaren and a very good effort by Hulkenberg for his final qualy for Haas .

Question

When an F1 team has a driver like Yuki Tsunoda, weighing almost nothing, is that team able to make good use of his light weight, or are they made to add weight to their car

rfuerst911sc 12-07-2024 12:49 PM

Hulkenberg picks up a 3 grid penalty for passing cars in pit lane . So he starts 7th tomorrow. I would really like to see him get a podium finish .

FIA introduced a minimum driver weight as the drivers were going extreme on their deiting/fat % to make their car quicker

I'd imagine Yuki's seat will have lumps of tungsten ballast bolted to the bottom of it to bring him up to the weight limit

F1, by the very fact that it's the pinnacle of motorsports and employs 20 of the world's fastest drivers - and they are all young - means they are all going to be Type A, dominant personalities of the Nth degree. NONE of them will be nice when it's time to race or qualify.

I personally think it's about time somebody blasted Max all out for a change. He IS a bully, even by F1 standards, and always has been, and I, for one, am happy someone laid it all out there. A product of his bully father.

Senna, btw, was famous for being a bully. He was Max and Michael wrapped up in one package. But everyone loves him. I never did. Great driver, but not an admirable competitor, imo.

And I love how people try to compare MAX's 4 WDC's to George's 3 wins. Apples to Oranges right now. Max has been in by far the most dominant car for most of that stint, and in at least a competitive one for the rest of his F1 career.
What's George been in until recently? A nothing backmarker car, and a Mercedes that totally flopped when the Ground Effects era began.

Not saying he's going to be Max, but it's ridiculous to see the comparison thrown out there when the conversation was about Max being an impossible bully.

Thanks, So does it help that the ballast is below Yukis butt near to the floor

100% yes, all ballast is as low as possible to Z0 to keep the cars centre of gravity height as low as possible

Z0 as it's known is the flat horizontal plane of the lowest surface of the floor

Only part of the car below Z0 is the skid block

Might be wrong but I think if driver ballast is req'd it has to be part of the seat to stop teams using the ballast to tune the car within the regs for front/rear weight distribition

Good qualifying!

Sad to see Haas penalized as I was hoping they would gain their place back in constructors, maybe in the race?
