As I and Craigster have stated before, you don’t want an actor fiddling with the gun. The Armorer should show/present the gun to the actor, hopefully with the 1st A.D. observing. They show it’s safe and IF the scene calls for the actor to pull the trigger, they only do so when directed. AND THEN there should be NO ONE in the line of fire to discharge a BLANK.

Blood money has been an accepted thing in many cultures for thousands of years. It’s cold and cruel but it sets up the children for life. Baldwin is Hollywood elite. No matter how he ****ed up he will still find work. The Hutchins guy is just a reminder of an unpleasant incident to them. His career is over. He will need some means of support.

That’s the best possible spin I can put on it.

Nothing will happen in NM to A. Baldwin. The powers that be will not risk alienating the Hollywood elite by prosecuting one of the elite. That's just not how things are done in today's world. All animals are equal but some animals are more equal. Santa Fe County DA Mary Carmack-Altwies has the case and a year to file charges. Someone will have to take the fall so more than likely the prop-master or gun wrangler. Sounds like the civil issue is resolved. Yes, a horrible accident that I wouldn't wish on anyone.

^Sadly, true. Any of us "normal" people, engaging in horseplay, with no malicious intent, but a degree of willful carelessness, would be charged with some form of manslaughter or negligent homicide and would do prison time.

Well how about this scenario? You’re at the range and the range master has a firearm he wants to sell you. So he hands you the piece and says it’s not loaded because he only uses blanks to demonstrate and instruct students on how not to flinch…oopsie!

If I pointed it at him, or anyone else, and pulled the trigger to find there was a live round in there and a person is dead? I'd have made a bad decision, employed some willful negligence, and killed somebody. I'd deserve prosecution and punishment. There are many less-stupid things prosecuted every day than pointing a thought-to-be-unloaded firearm at someone and pulling the trigger.

If I remember correctly (I may not) the Baldwin deal occurred not while actually filming a scene where he fires at the camera, but just before with a bit of horseplay.

At my range any exchange of firearms must be made with the weapon locked open. When you take control of a weapon you take responsibility for it. Period.

It was a hypothetical, guys. I’m not defending Baldwin. However, just like Baldwin case, if it went to a jury trial my guess he’d be exonerated.

And I do agree that Baldwin should be charged. My hypothetical guy probably should be, too. If Baldwin doesn’t get charged I’d call it a miscarriage of Justice.
