who cuts in line?

like this has never happened to me on purpose.

Sometimes while out walking the dog, I'd come across people sitting in their vehicle along the ocean, eating their lunch, playing with their phone, reading a book, or just staring out over the water...all while their motor's still running. This would be on a nice day, windows open, no need for the heat or A/C to be on. I'd just walk on by the first time, but if they were still there, with the motor still idling, 20-30min. later when I was walking back, I'd politely ask them to please shut it off if they intended to continue sitting there.
Admittedly, this is a pet peeve of mine...I just didn't like seeing $6/gal gas being burned up for no apparent reason, and besides that, there's more than enough CO2 in the atmosphere already.

The range of responses I got from these folks was interesting...from, "OK, sure", or simply ignoring me, to "Go Fk yourself you azzhole".

I no longer engage anyone about this...trying to point out people's lack of common sense just isn't worth the effort.

drip by drip, they grow.

Try Scuba Diving in a delicate delicate cave system surrounded and swimming through pencil thin features that took thouuuuusands of years to grow drop by drop when the cave was dry 10,000 years ago, then flooded during the last ice age thaw when sea level rose 200 feet.

skip to the 1:30 minute mark of my dive video........ one wrong move and you've killed an ancient artifact.

I have. Got a load of crap for it here, too.

I was at Taco Bell feeding the crew that was helping me. Some dipskit was standing in line fking with his phone with ZERO situational awareness. We were right behind him. The counter person was standing there waiting for someone to step up and place an order, so I did.

Almost the exact same thing happened at a Starbucks - space cadet was on the phone, too busy to take care of business, counter person standing there looking helpless, so I stepped up to the counter and placed my order ahead of them.

A little boy was sitting on his porch eating candy as fast as he could unwrap it.
A man passing by noticed what the boy was doing.
He said "All that candy isn't good for you, and you'll spoil your supper".
The boy said, "Well, I don't know about that, but my grandpa lived to be 102".
The man asked, "You mean he lived that long by eating candy?"
"No", the boy said, "by minding his own business."

-people at Costco, when it's very busy
-people at Home Depot making returns
-people at Lowes waiting for paint to be mixed
-people at Home Depot waiting for service in the rental section
-people at the local liquor store that doesn't have an organized line-up
-drivers on the highway that use on and off ramps as their personal 'passing lane'

And the worst one IMO - people who try to move from the end of a line-up when a cashier opens up a lane and says 'I'll take the next person'...

I have no problem with innocent mistakes, I'm rarely in a hurry. If there's any doubt I wait.

Jerks who sense an opportunity. I was at a new Starbucks with my wife once that had a poorly delineated line out the door. We were standing to the right, which wasn't technically "in line", and a guy walked up and cut in front of us from the left, which was technically "in line" but it's not like we weren't standing right behind someone else already in line.

"Excuse me, we were in line", I said.

"That's not the line," he said.

"Fair enough, but we were clearly waiting in line", I said.

"I can't help you, bud", he said, and held his place.

This man was enormous, 6' 6" and 260lbs at least, but I'm stubborn as **** and was about to be very direct (and probably get punched) when my wife grabbed my arm so I had to let it go. But man. What. A. Dick.

I'm going to skip this video because it makes me terrified, thanks but no thanks!

I remember swimming in a cenote and seeing lights and bubbles come from a tunnel below. "NO ****ING THANKS", said I, and swam back to the shore.

This one is the most common I see and the most petty. Everybody knows who the "next" person is, your running over faster than the person ahead of you doesn't make you "next".

Same general concept applies to any drive-thru that goes from single line and diverges to double lines at the end. Some ******* is always going to try to skip the single line. It's faster for everyone to wait in a single line and then diverge, and it's way less stressful than trying to guess at which of two lines will be fastest.

I think my main problem has been airline travel lately. TSA checkpoints are my "Achilles heel".

Having been in the military, for me all lines should be "butts to nuts, tighten up that line".

And really, you wait until we get right up to the TSA Officer to start fumbling and trying to find your ID? Back of the line for you!

I would say that's par for the course here in LA. People behaving poorly know they are behaving poorly, and you get painted the a-hole for pointing that out.

So often now, especially after Covid, people are standing 6 feet behind the person in front. It makes a line go out the door, just to get to the host to get our seat with two couples in front of us.

Or the opposite were people stand an inch behind you. I always wanted to "squeak one out" when they do that.
